So with God of War III coming out in a few weeks, though I might start a thread about it and the series overall.

God of War is a franchise I missed the boat on when the first two installments came out. Kinda strange since I have always been a fan of the chaotic over the top hack n slash games. Devil May Cry series comes to mind.

A month or so ago I downloaded the God of War 3 Demo, and started playing it. I liked what I saw within the first five minutes so much that I had to stop because I really wanted to get my hands on the first two before I had anything spoiled. I was a little reluctant because the first two were both last gen games and I have heard horror stories before about last gen games getting "upgrades" for next gen consoles. Well the GOW collection was $40 brand new so I said "what the hell" and took a chance. I was very pleased. Both games kicked ass and looked very nice on the PS3. Had a hell of a time playing them through.

So today I returned to the GOW 3 Demo and played it all the way through and it was frickin' fantastic albeit short. I can't wait for it to come out in a few weeks.

So anyone else in the GOW III(or overall series) camp?

I was at 711 yesterday and got a Kratos Fury slurpee. Felt like a kid getting excited over it. I originally played them on the PS2, but revisited them with the PS3 Collection. I was having troubles deciding whether to get Heavy Rain or Final Fantasy, but then realized today that this will be out really soon, so I'll get this instead and worry about the other two later on.

Yeah I have GOW Collection and Uncharted 2 I can use as trade-ins. So I might use one for Heavy Rain, and one for GOW 3.

GOW 3 Demo has me so pumped.

I have God of War III pre-ordered right now. I had some Amazon discount codes months back and the pre-order price for me now is like $48 shipped and I will get a $10 gamer's credit for a future video game purchase.

I'm keeping the pre-order up because its a greater deal for a game I don't expect to see a markdown on for a while but I never have played the originals (will probably pick up the Collection down the road) and never use my PS3. From everything I hear, this should be the game, although I said the same for Uncharted 2 and still haven't gotten around to it.

If you have the spare cash and time, I would definately recommend picking up the collection and attempt to play through them first. The story is continual, and it is actually a pretty damn cool story for a hack n slash game. To me that was one of the most suprising aspects of this franchise so far, the story being so strong.

Aww man the graphic scenes of violence and gore in the GOWIII Demo, ripping the eye out of the cyclops was crazy insane. I can't wait to see what else is in store.

I know there is a Demo listed on the PS3 store right now, not sure if it is the same E3 demo that has been out forever, or a new demo, but I can't even check due to the PSN being down and out right now(See: PS3 thread)

I felt GoW2 was leaps and bounds better than the first game. There were almost no brutally long stretches of combat without variations, checkpoints, or saves, the platforming that was pretty much universally terrible in GoW1 was polished up, with better overall camera angles and control, and of course there was no Hades.

Plus I loved the
Icarus wings
and the awesome fight with
Perseus
more than almost anything in GoW1.

For me, GoW1 seemed to be on a downhill slide once you killed the sea serpents.

Chains of Olympus was also great stuff. Much shorter game overall than the others, but well worth whatever it's selling for new now. I think it was lame that they didn't throw in Chains of Olympics on their God of War "Collection." Sure, it wouldn't have looked so hot in HD, but for completion's sake it would have been great to hae.

Speaking of Chains of Olympus what was the storyline of that game? Was it a prequel?

Yup. It takes place before GoW1. Basically, Kratos has to save Helios from the escaped Atlas. Along the way, he has visions of his daughter and has an opportunity to reunite with his dead daughter in the underworld by giving up all his powers,
but it turns out it was a plot by Persephone to weaken him so he could get revenge on Olympus. She's the one who had freed Atlas. So Kratos gets back his powers and ends up doing what he does best.

psst gamestop owns game informer...

A friend of mine is flipping the fuck out because GOW3 was reviewed in the April issue of GI. Sure, it still won GOTM, but if it had been reviewed for the March issue (since it's being released in March and all) it "would have beat that piece of shit game Mass Effect 2 for GOTM". Does it really matter?

Needless to say I'm anticipating the release of this, though I'll probably wait until Target puts it on sale in a couple weeks for $20 less like they do nearly all other new releases.

After I'm done with inFamous, and after I play through a few challenge rooms in Arkham Asylum, I'll be trading them in towards God of War 3. That should at least give me a few weeks

Won't be getting it tonight since the parents will be in town for the next few days, but I'd say I'll be picking it up this weekend.

Using the $10 credit I got for preordering FFXIII, I ordered GOW 3 for 51 bucks plus $10 credit for a future purchase (probably Heavy Rain), so I won't be getting it until next week. I don't mind because I'll be playing Final Fantasy and refinishing God Of War 2 in the mean time.

Last week one of my best friends egged me on to jump on the GOW bandwagon. He fired up the GOWIII demo on his PS3 and all those gorgeous graphics, the kick-ass killings and everything else blew me away. He lent me both his PS2 games for GOW1 and GOW2, telling me I should get started on those before trying the new one because the overall story arc was really good and should be followed chronologically, so to speak (yes, I know there are prequels and such but follow me here). I've always been more of a Guitar Hero/Rock Band type of guy with my PS3 game-wise, as I mostly watch movies and videos. Been a while since I commited to a game of this kind, back to my PS2 days, so I'll give this a go and see if I get my gaming juices up again.

Just beat Poisden. For a second there I thought we might get to go through the entire game already maxed out and shit, until Zeus opened a can of Lightning Bolt Whoop-ass and the predictable double-cross by the Titans sent Kratos down to that spirit river thingy

I traded in inFamous and Arkham Asylum last night and I was just going to take the credit. Then the EB Games guy mentioned that I can use the credit towards a new, full priced game and only have to pay $15 for it. I haven't had a chance to play it as the parents just got in town last night for a quick visit, but look at this weekend.

I dunno if this game is just short, or there is a lot of gameplay left between all the other bosses and when you finally face Zeus, because it seems like once you get to the first boss, it starts to become a rapid fire game of boss fights. Then again I guess when there are so many it will come off like that. Either that or I have just logged way more hours of gameplay then I thought.

Just finished it. Awesome game. It had the best puzzles and boss fights of the trilogy. I really liked that the different weapons actually mattered this time around. In the previous games, the special weapons weren't even necessary because the regular blades were all you needed. It was a lot of fun upgrading and using all of the different weapons in this one. Especially the badass gauntlets.

Just beat it. Amazing. Final battle with Zeus was awesome and damn if it didn't look like eye candy every second of the way.

This game is far tougher than I thought it would be. Normally I blow through games on normal difficulty but I'm dying a lot. Hades must have killed me5 or 6 times before I finally beat him.

I think replaying GOW1 on hard and replaying GOW2 these past couple of months have gotten me so prepared because I found GOW3 to be the easiest. I didn't find any boss particularly hard. Taking your time, and using the right analog stick to dodge makes a big difference.
