Where can I get a decent cheap one?

Wal-Mart and Best Buy all have ones for like $15 but they're available only online. Is there a brick and mortar store that sells cheap HDMI cables or am I stuck just getting one on the internet?

Keep in mind that I'm in rural New Hampshire so my options are pretty much Wal-Mart, Best Buy and K-Mart.

Do you have a Big Lots? Try your "Dollar" stores. Just make sure you are getting v1.3, and you'll be set.

Find any place that sells "Rocket Fish". 10 bucks (that's Canadian, so probably less), and it hasn't failed me yet. Since you've got a Best Buy they should have it.

Apple Store $30 - great quality and I've never had an issue with them.

High Speed HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Cable 28AWG - 6ft w/Ferrite Cores (Gold Plated Connectors) - BLACK for $3.56.

They also have other colors like blue, red, orange, white, green.

I see this just after I get back from Best Buy where I bought one for $30.

I saw Rocket Fish at Best Buy but the cheapest price they had was like $60. The exchange rate is rough these days.

^_^;; $60? Wow... That's insane. I paid only $10 for it... I know there should be an exchange rate, but that's insane...

I can't believe how 'wowed' I am by the concept of HDMI cable in different colours. I got mine from newegg.com, if you're not opposed to the online route.

And finally, consider my hat off for you to knowing to cheap out on HDMI cable, which is arguably the most overpriced electronics item on the market.

I bought an HDMI cable for my 360...and then when I got the PS3 moved it over to that and now use the component cables that came with my 360.

That is all I know about HDMI.

And hey...You're welcome.

I have an orange and a red HDMI cable. I want to get a blue one. I also have a green CAT 6 cable.

Monoprice is great. I used to price things out for my old IT job at Best Buy prices then get a PO and go nuts with the extra cash at Monoprice so we could have proper spare parts, cables and such.

As for pack in cables for PS3... let me just say that dev kits for 360 come with one, sometimes TWO, of every kind of cable you could want for the systems, ethernet, component, composite, f'n VGA cable, charge kit for wireless controllers, everything. PS3 comes with the composite cable and an ethernet cable for the Test kits and same for the Development kits, which is still better than the ethernet-cable-less new slims they are putting out! This is the same company that doesn't pack in a usb mini-b cable with their god damn controllers. Luckily for us they use the same cable connector as the ps2 so most programmers just got hooked up that way. Also, the HDTV/Monitors we bought for the devs had HDMI cables packed in, Samsung ftw?

I don't understand why they don't package an HDMI cable with the PS3.

Because standalone Blu Ray players don't come with them either. I think it's dumb, but I also think that at least half, if not more, of the people buying game systems don't even have HDTV's.

Standalone Blu Ray players not coming with them is even stupider. I can't think of a reason that anyone WITHOUT an HDTV would buy one. Buying a Blu Ray and just playing it in standard def is like flushing money down the toilet.

Most people don't realize you need to.

Hell, if the guy at Best Buy (before Best Buy went totally stupid) didn't tell me I needed a cord, I wouldn't've known.

Wouldn't they realize something is wrong when their HD device isn't playing in HD?

A coworker of mine (who is pretty with it on all technology) got a Blu Ray player the Christmas before last from his wife. She bought a $100 HDMI cord because the sales associate pushed it. He kept telling me he needed me to look at it as it wasn't impressive at all. Over the phone, I figured out the problem. He connected the HDMI cord, but also connected the standard def cords that came with it. He had the input switched to the standard connection, and was blown away when his Hi Def experience exploded via the push of a button.

...you'd be amazed at how people don't actually bother trying to figure out why something doesn't work.

I'm amazed that Blu Ray, the pinnacle of high-definition, even offer the the option of standard-definition inputs.

They really should package HDMI cables with Blu Ray. Only an idiot would buy a Blu Ray to watch in standard def.

Totally agree, if a player supports an output format then it should come with cables for the format.
Also, 1080p can be done over VGA, DVI, Component Video and HDMI. DVI and HDMI offer the bonus of the signal being completely digital and support HDCP protection. HDMI is the only format that also support sound, though, making things awfully simple to hook up anymore... but everyone still calls IT for help anyway for some reason. ::)

Another recommendation for Monoprice. Good prices, quality cables (and no annoying clamshell packaging).

I've seen BD players with HDMI cables at both Costco and K-Mart. For example: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11480950&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&lang=en-US&s=1

However, that's the exception rather than the rule. The HDMI bundled players are mostly limited to wholesale clubs and not available at major electronics retailers.

At the very least, BD players should come with component cables. Then there's the SD card thing, but that's probably for another thread.

Two years after the posts in this thread, is this still a quality HDMI cable to buy? I bought my parents a new TV for Christmas and ended up just using my old HDMI cable when I hooked up the Hi Def cable box.

I'm not up for spending more than maybe $20 on a cable, especially since everything read over the years, including this thread, says that just about all HDMI cables produce the same results. Though, I did notice that some packages make note that the cable supports 120Hz, 240Hz, or 600Hz, and my parents' TV has the 240Hz speed.

You can buy HDMI cables for 1 dollar, shipping included on ebay from China...which to my knowledge work perfectly fine. I own several, and they all produce the exact same picture as the cable my friend thought he was getting a deal on buying on 'clearance' for 20 bucks from Best Buy or Blockbuster can't remember.

Yea, get the cheapest HDMI cables you can find. They make NO difference in sound or picture quality at all.

The new shit about HDMI cables:

If you have a 3DTV, you have to use High Speed HDMI cables. Otherwise, standard speed is fine.

Pretty much what everyone else said. It's a digital signal. It either works or it doesn't. Buying 24K Gold plated cables won't help you any.
