Heavy Rain - TGS 09: Japanese Dramatic Trailer
---

Finally a release date has been pegged to heavy rain, and the hype machine begins to role as more and more videos and pictures pop up around the internet. I've tried to avoid them as most will be (possibly) spoilers and this is the type of game I want to avoid any and all kind of spoilers for. I've waited nearly 10 years for a Shenmue 3 and this will be closest I get to it, and I can no longer wait!

Strangely, it seems to split the internet gaming crowd down the middle with those who think it will be amazing and those who think it'll be an interactive movie/totally shit. Personally, I can deal with a few Quick Time Events - just like in Shenmue - and if the story telling is as good as it appears, then it should make for a good gaming experience. You can generally tell the type of person who thinks this game will suck, they're the same people playing and hailing Modern Warfare 2 as the best game and most original game of the decade...

C'mon Chris, no need to hate on the MW2 love going around. Heavy Rain looks awesome. Pending final reviews of how it plays, of course, I'll probably be picking it up on release day. The story itself looks pretty bad ass.

One of the games I bought my PS3 for. It better not disappoint.

Aye, again its one of the few reasons I picked a PS3 up (the others being LittleBIGplanet, MGS4 and FF), so this better be good!

Same for me, so hopefully the game turns out well. It looks incredible, but I've never played a game of that sort (I.E. Indigo Prophecy).

I'm willing to give it a shot, but I won't be buying it on launch date. Gonna wait to see what the general consensus is before I shell out $60 for it.

Heavy Rain looks amazing and the concept is definately original. I just hope they pull it off.

I enjoyed Indigo Prophecy in the final fourth of the game or so. Hopefully this one doesn't fall flat like that game did.

Wasn't development on Indigo Prophecy rushed, thus the falling apart of the story late in the game? Then again, I'm not sure they could have made the AI faction coherent regardless of the time they put into it.

You know, with how "slick" this title looks to be, its odd that there seems to be such "low visibility" for it.

I'm so excited for this. A friend of mine has Indigo Prophecy. I doubt he's ever played it. I'm going to ask him if I can borrow it.

For years I always wondered what this Indigo Prophecy was, then I realised it was the Regionalised name for Fahrenheit.

Yeah. I remember hearing they changed it because Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 was out around the same time although I don't know how you could confuse those two. A Michael Moore game I would think would be more of a platformer where you are on a quest while collecting donuts.

I know it got censored down a bit here too to avoid an Adults Only rating here in the States. Did you play it Chris? Is there really an interactive sex scene like I've heard?

Aye there was, you had to press buttons to fuck her harder haha. I think it suffered from the Hot Chocolate scandle in GTA a few years prior. I think you can download it via the marketplace on the 360 (or from torrents on the PC...)

I'm downloading the demo right now. Fucking CAN'T WAIT.

EDIT: Just played it. Wasn't absolutely blown away, but it shows promise. There was one interactive scene that was REALLY fucking cool. Controlling the character takes a bit to get used to. I can see a lot of people not digging this at all though.

How do you get access to the demo?

I cheated and got a code, but when I went to redeem it says it was invalid. Fuck.

EDIT: Nevermind got it, had to register on America PSN site first, then go to the link to collect evidence. Initial time around I was using the Euro PSN site.

The ARG sort of sucks, it's way too easy. Also, kotaku fucking spoiled it for everyone. Oh well, early demo.

Demo showed potential, I just still am not sure if I can play a full length game that way. I really don't see why they made it necessary to hold down R2 in order to walk!?!

Not too much happened during the demo, but I am definately going to play through it a couple more times cause I already noticed there are different clues scattered around certain areas that you basically have to pick up during a certain time or they cease to be available, and I am not sure if that changes or helps or whatnot....

From what I have heard the story and characters draw you in so much that sometimes making a decision you think is the right one, will get a horrible result and will sit there feeling like a bastard for a little while and then unlike other games you just have to deal with it and move on.

Please use spoiler tags if you start discussing the story of the game, its not out till Friday over here, and so far I've avoided EVERY kind of potential spoiler. I'm so sad.

Played through the demo a week or so ago.

Comes across as an update to the Phoenix Wright series, I think. Awesome play mechanics, great story...but once I got to the end, I didn't really feel like I wanted to sit through most of the same scenes just to do things a little differently. Once you know what happens...what's the point? Unless the endings are all vague "If only you had ____" stuff that makes you want to go back 3-4 times to get everything so you can piece it all together, and that just seems like cheap game-extending filler.
