Is the era of the star running back over? Barnwell answers eight questions on how the NFL got here
Dalvin Cook and Ezekiel Elliott are free agents, and RBs are struggling to get paid. To see the future of the position, we first have to look back.

I was just thinking about how quarterback salaries have skyrocketed over the past ten years while running backs have mostly remained stagnant.
Now obviously the QB is the most respected position and for good reason. But sometimes I do find running backs undervalued. Also, a quarterback usually can’t do much without a good LT or at least one nice target. Only the best make second stringers look good.
And that got me to thinking to the defensive side. People always talk about edge rushers being the most important and they are but shutdown corners are undervalued imo. Middle linebackers used to be the premier position but not so much anymore maybe.
Would be interested to hear the thoughts of the rest of the board.
