The best part of "Igniton (Remix)" is the end of the song, because R. Kelly is evidently getting a handjob whilst listening to "Ignition (Remix)".

Yeah, I don't know what this song does to have such a singular position in the pantheon of R&B songs whose videos feature large black asses. I mean, as far as that category goes, I don't even like this song as much as "Back That Ass Up."

The song is so good that the dude from the Mountain Goats once started a thread on ilx about it.

14. And then we enter into the levels of reference again, which is where I get completely dizzy "Rollin' on 24s/while they say on the radio": what do they say? Oh, good God, they say what critical theory thought they'd say: "This is the remix to igntion"

15. which is to say that the song describes a party where they're listening to the radio play a song describing a party where they're listening to the radio playing a a song describing a party where they're listening to the radio playing a song describing a party and well you get the general idea

16. Which is joy itself! The song has absorbed its creators, its listeners, everybody!

It's not even the best R. Kelly song. My sentimental favorite from 5th grade is "Down Low" featuring Ronald Isley AKA Mr. Biggs, but I think even the less celebrated "Feelin On Yo' Booty" is just as good as "Ignition (Remix)," notwithstanding the "postmodern genius" of the lyrics referencing the fact that the song itself is a remix of another song.

Both this and the original are good, but seeing this thread made think for a moment that we'd time warped to six years ago.

"Down Low" was amazing, made all the more by bringing "Mr. Biggs" into my world where it seemed like Ron Isley was endlessly being cuckolded by R. Kelly and having it immortalized in song. And then R went and cheated on Biggs' goddaughter Kelly Price with her friend. Why Mr. Biggs never killed R. Kelly, I don't know.

John Darnielle also covered it once spur of the moment (he was covering "The Boys Are Back in Town" and then at the end he was like "well what the hell" and started singing the chorus to Ignition) which I think is pretty cool.

I had the pleasure of seeing Will Oldham cover the original version. He did it as a duet with whatever the name of that woman who was (still is?) in his live band.

I thought "Contagious" was the video where everyone with AIDS spontaneously combusts or something. It's not. So which one was that?

"Trapped in the Closet." I don't think he ever finished that shit.

My only problem with "Ignition(Remix)" is that the track comes out a month after getting arrested for a statutory rape charge. It might have been better to switch the style up a little.

Yeah. He gets hit with the stat rape charge and comes right back out calling himself the "Pied Piper of R&B." Yet he somehow seemed to get more popular in the aftermath.

But yeah, I'll admit to playing the hell outta that song back in the day.

That's what's so awesome about it. He gets accused of taping himself pissing on a 13 year old and then a month later comes out with a song so good that everyone basically forgets about all that.

I was gonna say that this song couldn't be the best ever because no one from Parliament worked on it, but god damn there's no disputing that logic.

I was trying to think of something unique to say here, but I agree with the premise of this thread completely.

somebody orders a plate of fish, and you're like, plates, and fishes, and then plates of fishes arrive from another planet, in a time machine
