there's a 20th anniversary edition out called Illmatic XX

I think they remastered the album, and the 2nd disc is all remixes and shit. I haven't heard any of it yet

there's also a documentary that just premiered at the Tribeca film festival

I think most will agree that 'It Ain't Hard to Tell' is the best track on the album (I'm a sucker for the Human Nature sample, sup S.W.V.) but I have to give love to Halftime

"the smooth criminal on beat breaks, never put me in ya box if ya shit eats tapes"

I love that line, that song is full of great rhymes

I love 'The World Is Yours' as well, with the awesome Ahmad Jamal sample

Memory Lane is great....shit, the whole album is great

I first heard this album maybe like 6 months after it came out. It's still one of my favorite albums ever, of any genre. Easy top 5 in hip hop, about as close to perfect as a hip hop record can be

Life's a Bitch is the best song on the album, and one of the best hip-hop songs ever. It's like an alternative to and lesson opposing the gangster/thug mentality of a lot of rappers in that era, and is still relevant today. Distillin' that shit into one line:

FUCK WHO'S THE BADDEST, YOUR PERSONAL STATUS DEPENDS ON SALARY

If the book on hip hop was written tomorrow I feel strongly it would end up the majority of peoples top ten lists. It's certainly one of my favorite albums of all time regardless of genre and definitely a top five hip-hop album.
