Lightswitch Rave!
So Wednesday is the event some tech people have been whispering about for years... honestly. The unveiling of the Apple Tablet, rumored at this point to be called the iPad. No one really knows what it's going to be, but there are no shortage of rumors out there. You can spend all day reading rumors on Gizmodo if you haven't been reading up on it all along.
Some questions:
Does anyone have any interest in something like this?
Is the iPad the worst name ever? If it sounds like a bad sketch comedy joke about apple branded Maxi Pads.... well, it was. MadTV had such a sketch.
Can something like this get you to read old media (ie newspapers) again?
Would you play games on this?
How cheap would this have to be for you to consider it?
For me, I have mild interest... not really. I don't like the idea of not having a physical keyboard on my computer. The iPad is dumb and I strongly prefer the earlier rumored name iSlate, although honestly that's not much better. I probably would not pay to read newspapers or magazines on this, although many publishers are banking on the fact that people will not be able to resist the allure of shiny new Apple products.
I would play games on it, probably, depending on the engine. If the are like the iPhone where you have virtual analog sticks then I'm probably not interested.
I think I would only want this thing if it were around $699-$799 and it's more than just a giant iPhone. With the zillion rumors floating around it's almost impossible to decipher what exactly this is going to be like. It's been rumored that Steve Jobs has called this "the most important thing he has ever done" so who the heck knows. I guess we will find out on Wednesday.
