Lonesome Cowboy Burt

Anyone heard the Geronimo Black stuff? It's Jimmy Carl w/ several of the Mothers and assorted other individuals. Most of his shit is long out of print, there's a couple albums of his that I really want to hear but they're impossible to find.

Related somewhat since I posted a clip from 200 Motels, I love Flo and Eddie period Zappa, always like to hear stuff from that period.

First time I've ever seen this. I like virtually every other era of Zappa better. I might take Flo/Eddie over some of the 80s stuff.

Flo & Eddie is the worst era of Zappa. I mean, Them or Us can be mediocre in spots, and Thing-Fish was largely ill-advised, but those extended Just 4 Giggles live things can be downright painful. I'd probably hurl Frank into an orchestra pit too if I had to sit through those schmucks laying a big drippy shit all over "The Little House I Used To Live In" or whatever.

Well, to be fair, Chunga's Revenge is manageable, but those are generally self-contained studio takes (or Hot Rats outtakes). The YCDs, though? eeee.

Haha, I like the Flo and Eddie period because of the live shows, I find them hilarious

But I also played the shit out of Live From Fillmore East when I was a kid, so that may have warped my mind

Compared to The Mothers and his revolving door bands of the early/mid 70's to early/mid 80's it sucks though, I'll agree with that.

My least favorite Zappa period musically is probably mid 80's to his death, when he got obsessed with orchestral music and the synclavier. I can appreciate that he was just doing what he wanted to do, and it's impressive in scope, but I don't really enjoy listening to it compared to the rest of his output.

The synclavier/PMRC era stuff only bothers me because it's the only Zappa that sounds dated. As for Flo and Eddie, I'll bust out "Billy the Mountain" once a year or so, but the rest of that album is a dawdle.
