I don't think it's a work at all. Joe Buck's not going to make it to show number 4. Holy fuck, he is so out of his element. This whole idea was such a disaster in the making to begin with.

Also, mad thanks to Jaxxxson for those clips. I tried looking for them for a while and couldn't find one that hadn't been pulled by HBO.

I've never heard of this Sudeikis, but Paul Rudd is annoying. I remember that he was on The Daily Show a couple years ago, and Stewart was yelling his name, building him up being the guest, as if it was some special appearance by Bob Hope or something. I thought, why is he so excited for Paul Rudd? Then he came out and sucked. So smug.

And here's what Artie said on Stern later

Artie talked about how Joe took him aside earlier and told Artie to "Let him have it", as well as the show's producer instrucing artie to go wild.

He also says that Joe hugged him after the show, and told him it was great.

You don't like Paul Rudd, Czech?

I find him quite likeable.

Remember, Czech's dislike of Judd Apatow films has been stated several times on the old board and I'm assuming it extends to the Judd Apatow repertory players.

And in a nice coincidence, Artie's on the Adam Carolla podcast today. Always a good combo.

Interesting stuff. If it's true, it makes sense. This is *GIVING JOE BUCK ATTENTION* and viral promotion.

I doubt Artie Lange is being honest with that stuff about the producers and Buck telling him to "let em have it" and even further, about the token hug after the show, but if it did happen, I'm sure it was just the respectful thing Buck felt he needed to do, more than any reason to just make him try to think that it didn't bother him that Artie was just being a complete dickhead to him in front of a live audience on his first show and pretty much effectively killed any little sense of potential the show had (although it was funny as hell). And if anyone told Artie shit before the show, I am sure the intentions were not to do what he did. Honestly, Lange is probably just trying to save his own ass so he doesn't get blackballed from hollywood and the entertainment world in general at this point. He also just recently got a Conan appearance cancelled, partly because the last time he was on Late Night, he was all fucked up and acting weird, but part of it probably was because of how he acted on this show as well.

But there's no way that whole situation was planned ahead of time as you could tell during the live show, Buck was having a really hard time keeping control of things when Lange would constantly be ripping on him, the show, and just about everything else in between. It totally threw him off for the rest of the show. Rudd and Sedakis could take it better since they are comedians, but Joe Buck, he is not.

Like I said before though, Lange's shit made the show what it was, basically a complete car crash of an idea that was just being openly talked about as such.

HBO should be embarrassed for:

1. Letting that disgusting fat slob on the air at all.

2. Giving Joe Buck a show in the first place. Costas' show was somewhat bad but at least I can like him and I enjoy HIS sense of humor.

Lange didn't come off as humorous at all to me. He just came off as his usual derelict self, whoring for attention and pandering to the Stern audience.

I'm a huge stern and lange fan, and I hate Buck more then life itself, so this was great.

Letterman's had Lange on tons of times, and he's always a good guest. He knows how to tone it down, while not completely losing his edge. If Conan wants to become another pussy Leno clone then I have no interest in his show.

Conan's always been a pussy. He may have zany writers and do weird dances, but when the guests start to get a little edgy, he gets uncomfortable. Like when Ferrell started off on his "Liza Minelli is a communist" jag, you could see Conan really squirming. A former writer of his has attested that Conan always wants to play it safe.

I don't think Conan's ever claimed to be a cutting edge type comedian though. He's more absurd than controversial. In fact, virtually every interview I've read with the guy, he's proudly pointed out that his show would work just as well on Saturday mornings as it would at 12:30 A.M.

Except for stuff like the masturbating bear and Joel Godard's gay Asian fetish and, erm, well

OK...maybe that wasn't a very good (or relevant) quote to use. But I imagine Conan wasn't being entirely serious when he's said. What my general point was that Conan relies way more on absurdist humor and sight gags than edgy jokes.

Besides there's absolutely no one on network television that isn't a bit of a pussy and hasn't been one for decades. I'm not sure why everybody is all of a sudden attacking Conan. Ostensibly, the reason Artie isn't allowed on for the time being isn't because his humor is too controversial but because the dude is a drug addict and they aren't the most reliable people in the world. Sure, you can point out that he's appeared on the show numerous times in the past but perhaps his last appearance (which I only caught a bit of) was the tipping point. I guess I should be surprised that it took a full two and a half weeks after he debuted 11:30 for the internet to declare him a pussy ass sellout.

To me the biggest story here is that lousy fuck Buck talking about his favorite website to visit as being TMZ. This is the guy broadcasting the World Series. Honestly, I hope his show takes off to a such a level that he can achieve his dream and go host the bachelor or something.

I can't help it---he's a hero to us big headed Irish-American New Englanders. Boy, I'm not endearing myself to Czech anymore with this post :-[

But when he does edgy jokes he'll always do that bit where he acts outraged at it. I know it's part of the act but sometimes you can tell that he really does look down on it. He kinda looked like Joe Buck when Ferrell and Norm went off on their bits. I don't care about 11:30 or whatever happened with Artie, Conan was a pussy before all that.

Besides there's absolutely no one on network television that isn't a bit of a pussy and hasn't been one for decades.

Oh, so then it's ok. Maybe someone can refute this, but I'll say that Kimmel isn't a pussy. The man got himself banned from Monday Night Football. That's on ESPN, owned by the same company as the one he works for. He just doesn't care.

Kimmel came to mind but I think paling around with Tom Cruise is kind of pussyish. Although, I guess in a sense, paling around with a guy that no other talk show host has a problem taking frequent pot shots at is kind of bold.

I've never seen anyone look like Joe Buck did in those clips.

I like Artie Lange... I got mad respect for a guy who somehow becomes fatter when all he does is basically eat cocaine, heroin, and methadone.

Huge Conan fan but I will agree that he does get nervous when a guest starts to get controversial

He seemed annoyed at Norm the last time. As did Andy.

IIRC there was an interview with Smigel where he alluded to Conan being like this in real life and that's why he played so well off Triumph and other Smigel creations

HBO, also the home of fellow douche convention Real Time with Bill Maher. And I love that show!
