Let's Play Ridge Racer Type 4.

Ridge Racer Type 4 was the last RR released for the Playstation in 1999. I bought it because I liked Gran Turismo and this commercial:

I thought Sammy Hagar was going to be on the soundtrack. Despite the soundtrack being Hagarless, it's a great game with a wonderful soundtrack, some unique vehicles that you have to unlock, and challenging courses.

So here's the deal: In Grand Prix mode you're a rookie driver. You have four teams trying to recruit you, each with strengths and weaknesses. I'm going to let the readers of this thread decide. Who are they? Let's meet them:

Pac Racing Club [Japan]

A new Japanese team competing for the first time this season. Their cars are tuned for balanced performance.

Racing Team Solvalou [Italy]

An elite Italian team with a record number of GP victories. Their cars are tuned for high performance.

R.C MicroMouseMappy [France]

A French team with cars renowned for ease of handling. The team also has a new owner for this season.

Dig Racing Team [USA]

A winning team in the past, this American team is in a slump. Their limited budget will make a winning season difficult to achieve.

So I'll give the Real TSM 48 hours to choose my team. As for the races, I'll upload them on my Youtube channel and post them here. If I fail to win a race, which I will, I'll post it too.

I still can't believe that driver picked up that woman and still won the race. Notice she gives him the most awkward smile.
Anyway, America won the Grand Prix but this mode is so short that I might go through and play as all the teams.

Well at least we get to choose what we're going to drive. I should have let you vote but oh well.




So there's four manufacturers. Two of them produce Grip style cars and two of them are Drift style. Drifting is easy to explain, It's easier to skid through corners while braking. Grip there isn't much skidding. I opted for the Lizard cars because we're an American team dammit!

Isn't pretty. I bet it's used.


This is important so I'll ignore it.

I can't wait to start.

Most of my races will have close finishes. I know this due to my history of playing the game. Also, I really screwed up drifting on a few corners. I thought it was interesting that you would race against your own team even though the story makes it seem like you're the only one. The next race will up later tonight.

Had I finished higher in the previous races, I would have gotten a faster car. The upcoming races are going be tougher due to stronger competition and I have to finish in second.

I going to spoil the end of story. You win the last race, celebrate with Eeyore, then throw yourself off a bridge. The ending was quite contoversial for the time.

Phantomile is a tough track because it's so short so you have to overtake a bunch of cars in a few minutes. My car isn't fast enough plus I ain't a great driver. Next week, I'm going to play with another team and try again.
