I think we did this at the old board, because I remember shuffling Zeppelin's untitled to lead off with "When The Levee Breaks" and close with "Stairway to Heaven." Here is how I've tinkered with Belle & Sebastian's Dear Catastrophe Waitress. I might go into Cool Edit and demonstrate some of the transitions a little later.

1. title track: Generally, I don't think you should lead off with the title track, but I'm putting this up front because it allows me to rattle off a nice little twee-suite later on without interruption.
2. Step Into My Office, Baby: I liked this a lot as the first track, so it's kind of a 1A here with the title track being short and simple enough to just be an overture for the whole deal. Remarkably, I'm not sick of this song yet like Inc is.
3. If She Wants Me: The trick here is to really tighten up the downtime between 2 and 3, though stopping just short of a crossfade.
4. Asleep on a Sunbeam: No change here, but again, the key is to make this is seamless as possible.
5. You Don't Send Me: The transition into this is smoother to me than the one into "I'm a Cuckoo."
6. Wrapped Up In Boots
7. I'm a Cuckoo: so this makes 3-7 one big run.
8. Piazza, New York Catcher: Incidentally, I really dislike this song, but after the aforementioned Big Run it actually makes a nice palate-cleanser.
9. If You Find Yourself Caught In Love: The protracted intro kind of signals a home stretch here.
10. Roy Walker: I like this song, but not as a penultimate. I'd rather get close to the end with the one real ballad on here.
11. Lord Anthony
12. Stay Loose: I can't close with anything else. Has a real end-credits feel to me.

Anyone else find themselves doing this?

I've never done this, but it sounds kind of interesting. I don't know what about "Piaza, New York Catcher" you make you "really dislike" it though. I find it fairly innocuous. I'd close with Lord Anthony, I think, swapping the last too.

I'll try this was Oasis' (What's The Story) Morning Glory... A lot tougher than I thought it would be. Still not sure if I'm entirely satisfied with this but oh well.

1: Roll With It. Always felt this would be a stronger start off song.
2: Some Might Say. Similar in feel to Roll With It. Slightly rock but not overly like Hello later on.
3: Don't Look Back In Anger. Thought this would be a better lead in to the next song rather than vice versa like the CD.
4: Wonderwall
5: Cast No Shadow.
6: Hey Now!. Continues the ballad aspect but also sets up the rock run coming up next.
7: Hello.
8: Untitled Rock Track. Brief interlude to set up the next run.
9: Morning Glory. Really flows smoothly off the untitled track.
10: She's Electric. Largely the filler song but helps set up for the finish.
11: Untitled Mellow Track . Flows well into the final.
12: Champagne Supernova. A capper song since I first listened to the CD and can't see any other song finishing this off.

Alanis Morissette - Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie

This is an album that could be a lot stronger. There's 17 songs and if you look at JLP (12 with an Alt. Take of "You Oughtta Know" and "Your House" serving as hidden tracks) and URS (11), this album could use a bit of tweaking around. I'm aiming to have this album have a similar feel to JLP, which had most of the stronger songs on the first half.

1: Baba - A good rock feel that helps as a good set up for the album. Another song with a JLP feel.
2: Front Row - Probably the most similar song to the JLP sound and arguably the best of the set.
3: Joining You - Good guitar rock and vocals.
4: I Was Hoping - Keeps up the rock/"JLP" fusion of rock and vocals going.
5: So Pure - The vocals help make this track stand out a bit.
6: One - Keeps the JLP feel going and could be a "sleeper" hit of the album.
7: Sympathetic Character - Helps set up the second half of the album with mellower tracks that still sound similar at times to the first half.
8: Ur - A mellow song to help slide off the prior song and take the pace down a bit.
9: Are You Still Mad - A good somewhat mellow song that has a JLP vocal vibe to it.
10: Unsent - Helps keep the softer portion of the album going while still being a solid song in its own right.
11: Thank U - Ever since I first heard this, I always felt that it would be a very set up to the final song.
12: That I Would Be Good. Just a very fitting closer in mood and vocal style.
Hidden Track: Would Not Come - I really like this song but not sure where it fits in the album. Too good to be axed completely but a little too different for the feel of the album to land anywhere.

Songs Axed
- Can't Not: Just as always struck me as the kind of song that would land on a B-Side/Outtakes compilation album.
- The Couch: Nothing really stands out about it.
- Heart of The House: Decent track but a little too soft for the album, IMO. Would be better served as a B-Side I think.
- Your Congratulations: See HOTH. The vocals are good but the instrumentation doesn't make the song really stand out enough to warrant inclusion.

Bumping this thread as it deserves more posts and is an interesting premise at the heart of it.

Garbage - Version 2.0. Somewhat of a tough album to do as most of the "hits" are fairly spread it but it has a fairly smooth transition throughout from track to track.
1: Wicked Ways - Very solid opener to the album that isn't too rocking but isn't too mellow either. Has a memorable chorus and riff to attract the listener.
2: When I Grow Up - Really catchy and fun song to help get the listener into the album.
3: Dumb - Not as catchy as some of the other tracks but flows great from Track 2.
4: Special - Equally upbeat tempo and a good companion piece to follow up on Track 3.
5: Push It - Solid enough track that compares well to Tracks 2 and 4.
6: Hammering In My Head - Memorable riff but the vocals aren't quite there to match it IMO. Good middle track to keep the CD going and flows well off Push It.
7: Temptation Waits - Always struck me as a better track suited for the latter half. Leads well into Track 8.
8: Sleep Together - I like.how this flows off Temptation Waits better and it leads great into...
9: I Think I'm Paranoid - Always thought it'd be better suited more towards the second half. Leads better into Track 10.
10: The Trick Is To Keep Breathing - Leads nicely into You Look So Fine.
11: You Look So Fine - Not a fan of this track but leads well into the final track.
12: Medication - Slow mellow feel best suited as the album closer IMO.

I'm listening to Waiting for the Moon by Tindersticks, so why not note that the first and third tracks should be flipped so as to open with "Sweet Memory" instead of "Until the Morning Comes," which doesn't have opener stuff to me. I'd also invert "Dying Slowly" and "People Keep Comin' Around" so Can Our Love... can open with those cool bassoon notes.

Oh hey guys my computer was broken for a week and I lost a bunch of shit. What's up?

<snip>

Oddly, this is one of the very few albums I wouldn't change much, if anything, on. I think "Medication" should be in a different place, but not the closer. Of course, I love "You Look So Fine" and consider it a companion piece to "Milk", so I think it's perfect as the closer.

Just thought I would share.
