I think we did this at the old board, because I remember shuffling Zeppelin's untitled to lead off with "When The Levee Breaks" and close with "Stairway to Heaven." Here is how I've tinkered with Belle & Sebastian's Dear Catastrophe Waitress. I might go into Cool Edit and demonstrate some of the transitions a little later.
1. title track: Generally, I don't think you should lead off with the title track, but I'm putting this up front because it allows me to rattle off a nice little twee-suite later on without interruption.
2. Step Into My Office, Baby: I liked this a lot as the first track, so it's kind of a 1A here with the title track being short and simple enough to just be an overture for the whole deal. Remarkably, I'm not sick of this song yet like Inc is.
3. If She Wants Me: The trick here is to really tighten up the downtime between 2 and 3, though stopping just short of a crossfade.
4. Asleep on a Sunbeam: No change here, but again, the key is to make this is seamless as possible.
5. You Don't Send Me: The transition into this is smoother to me than the one into "I'm a Cuckoo."
6. Wrapped Up In Boots
7. I'm a Cuckoo: so this makes 3-7 one big run.
8. Piazza, New York Catcher: Incidentally, I really dislike this song, but after the aforementioned Big Run it actually makes a nice palate-cleanser.
9. If You Find Yourself Caught In Love: The protracted intro kind of signals a home stretch here.
10. Roy Walker: I like this song, but not as a penultimate. I'd rather get close to the end with the one real ballad on here.
11. Lord Anthony
12. Stay Loose: I can't close with anything else. Has a real end-credits feel to me.
Anyone else find themselves doing this?
