Netflix is in very early development of a potential live-action show based on The Legend of Zelda, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
The streaming network had no comment when contacted by Mashable, while Nintendo, which owns the title, did not immediately respond to messages.
Something to note about the possibility of a live-action Zelda: The main character, Link, who's on a mission to rescue the princess Zelda, does not speak. He's always been mute, except for during a cheap cartoon version from the late 1980s; should the show come to fruition, it'll be interesting to see whether he has a voice.
The Journal reported that Netflix is shooting for a family-audience Game of Thrones — so, nothing like Game of Thrones, really — and is working with Nintendo and is seeking a screenwriter. That puts Zelda in the earliest of early stages, meaning it's somewhere between two years away and never getting made.
