Malware trouble

My mom keep getting these pop ups where it will say "You have a crush in _________", click okay to continue. Also, at random a sound will start on the speakers and it promotes dish washing liquid.
I tried using Adaware and Malawarabytes but it isn't going away. What else should I try and when I eventually move away, should I buy her a Mac?

Yes. I know what's wrong after doing some research. It's a virus that's embedded in the master boot record and there is only a few programs that can eliminate something like that.

Could a computer with 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4 processor and 2GB of RAM support Windows7 because I'm thinking of reformatting and installing that on the computer?

I ran the Compatibility Wizard of the Windows site and it said it would run. I'm using Windows 7 on this computer and hopefully Windows 7 has better protection when it comes to adware/spyware etc.

I occasionally ran the Win7 pre-release RC on my computer--Athlon 64 3000+, 1GB RAM--and it was pretty solid for the most part.
