Microsoft Word 2007 Issue

I've been getting a box saying "Word could not create the work file" when I go to open Microsoft Word on my computer. This doesn't let me save any of the documents I've been typing in Word. I've been hearing that it's part of a problem when you get a system update (I'm still using XP). I've visited the Microsoft sites to get a fix and there's a temporary fix, but it doesn't last. It's an odd issue, because it happens every other time I turn on my computer. Just wondering if anyone here had any ideas of how to make a long lasting fix for this issue.
