Happened upon espn radio this morning and their topic was NFL draft combines. Baseball is back baby!

MLB TV shit the bed for the start of opening day yesterday. That was fun.

The Rockies and Rays kick off at 3pm ET. The last of the teams to get started. The Triple A baseball season also starts today with the rest of the minor leagues starting next week.

Those two games in Japan never happened, so the Cubs scoring 10 runs on Opening Day yesterday was great.

Backup Catcher Carson Kelly becomes the first Cub to hit the Cycle since Mark Grace in 1993 and the 12th Cub to do it in franchise history.

Holy shit. This is an insane game with crazy offensive numbers from the Cubs. Kelly is engraved in Cubs history forever regardless what he does the rest of the season or his time here. Love when journeymen can get into the record books.

Also, I'm just going to cherish this one year of watching Kyle Tucker as the Ricketts will presumably cheap out and let him walk. He's amazing. 2023 comeback Belli was damn good, but even in this small sample size, Tucker feels like he makes such a bigger impact.

I shouldn't rag on the Rockies before the game is over but man, outside of Ezequiel Tovar there is really nothing to get excited about on that club.

What's truly astounding is they have a guy in Kris Bryant who went from being a 25-30 HR hitter to a guy who's hit 17 HR in 687 PA with a .245 BA going into his 4th year with Colorado. The one year he was moderately healthy (80 games) he had a baffling 77 OPS+.

If it was a place notorious for being a pitcher's park, fine, but it's with COLORADO where a guy like Ryan McMahon with basically a league average OPS+ can slug 20-23 HR a year.

The Reds are the first team since the 1960 Phillies to lose three straight games by the score of 1-0.

They have not scored a run in 28 innings.

When the Seattle Pilots had their expansion year they moved into Sicks Stadium. It was an 11,000 seat facility that they expanded to seat about 25,000 by midseason. The problem with the Rays/A’s is they’re more concerned with the quality of facilities rather than giving fans an opportunity to actually see a game. You can convert a big facility to baseball and though it’s a bit quirky it feels major league. The minor league stadiums feel like a pale imitation no matter the actual quality of play.

Locking up Vlad for 14 years feels insane. But realistically you're not going to find players you need on the market otherwise.
