I got Sigh No More last February and quite liked it. I really like "The Cave" in particular. I heard it again outside a restaurant on New Year's Eve, so it really helped the 25-minute wait to hang around outside on a 65-degree day and listen to that. I'm usually terrible about waiting to be seated.

For some reason as much as I've enjoyed Little Lion Man and the Cave I didn't bother grabbing this album until a couple days ago when the radio station I pretty much trust by me had the album as its top of 2010. Good stuff on the first couple listens. Between this and the Avetts, the banjo might be ready to make it's triumphant return to glory.

I thought this was gonna be a remake of Sanford and Son featuring the cast of Sesame Street.

Sigh No More is such a treat. I've been listening to most of it at least once a week since I downloaded it in July. I still can't believe it got a 2.1 on Pitchfork... I thought it would of been no lower than a 7.

It got a 2.1 because they're European. Listing Fleet Foxes as an obvious influence for this sort of thing is pretty lol, also. I like this band a lot, but for someone who hears them on the radio constantly the 'look at this great discovery I've made' tone of the op is rather strange.

So, I listened to the album on the way to work today. To say I loved it is an understatement. It was such a joy and treat to listen to. I am a big fan of the soundtrack for A Mighty Wind which is all folk music and have been looking for something new. This fulfills the requirement perfectly.

Does anyone know of any other bands that are like this that I might dig?

Southern Utah music extends about as far as Country, and Country. Unless you listen to the college radio station then it's a mismash of emo, hip-hop, and pop, occasionally they have what's called "The Deans Corner" where the Dean of Performing and Visual Arts picks a trio or so of songs they put into rotation for two weeks or so, "Little Lion Man" was one of those picks, and I loved it.

Definitely try out the Avett Brothers. Especially their earlier stuff. Emotionalism, A Carolina Jubilee, Mignonette, and Four Thieves Gone: The Robbinsville Sessions are my favorites.

I also really like Old Crow Medicine Show (Wagon Wheel is one to check out), the Low Anthem, and the Felice Brothers.

The Pitchfork review of Sigh is hilarious. "I bet he's never held a gun before in his life!" or some bullshit, as if the reviewer has killed a man or two in his day.

The Avett Brothers are fucking awesome. This band is fucking boring.

Also, Alfie are you suggesting that Pitchfork has some kind of anti-European agenda? Cause that's weird.

Can't put my finger on exactly why, but I just can't get on board with these guys.

Maybe it's got something to do with how ridiculously overhyped and overplayed they are over here. Pretty much every casual music fan I know goes on about these guys all the time. They're perfectly acceptable, but otherwise boring.
