Need a newbie-friendly guide to DVD burning

I've just now figured out torrents, and I'd like to be able to burn some of these wrestling shows to DVD-R's and finally put my DVD burner to use. What's a good site to check out? I know the process should be easy enough, but someone who was showing it to me had to use a program to convert the files to a certain format first and then burned them. I need help.

Do you use Toast? Toast makes it really simple, but note converting could take a long time depending on your computer specs.

I don't use anything yet for burning. I use uTorrent to download.

Oh yeah- what type of cable would I need to connect my computer to my TV so I can watch stuff/browse the web on my TV? S-Video?

Depends what kind of video card you have. I had a video card that had component out and vga out.. You might have s video out. It depends on your computer.
