Heartbreak and Don't Be Cruel are both definitive New Jack Swing albums...too bad that neither New Edition or Bobby Brown did anything half as good again. The "N.E. Heartbreak" video is sick too! Malcolm Jamal Warner!

Also discussion raised in GTG...is Michael Jackson's Dangerous a New Jack Swing album? I say yes but I can also see why people would say it wasn't. It came out near the end of the era.

You damn right Dangerous was New Jack Swing. Teddy Riley produced the album! Plus this was only 1991, didn't NJS technically go for a few more years, even if it wasn't the genre's prime years? If No Diggity counts, that was 1996!

I've stumbled across discussions here and there that say that New Jack Swing sounds dated and didn't age well, which hurts my heart. Unless there's an underground movement, the only recent song that emulated that vibe was "Finesse" by Bruno Mars (w/ Cardi B).

"Chunky" and "That's What I Like" seem kind of new jack swing-ish too. I'll forever defend Bruno Mars as one of the great pop stars of this era for waving the New Jack flag. I haven't listened to it since it was popular but Ariana Grande's "Problem" was sort of new jack swing sounding too.

Of course, those "new" songs are all like 5 or 6 years old...
