Injuries already hitting. Broncos will waive WR KJ Hamler (pericarditis) and fear WR Tim Patrick has another significant injury.

RB Zack Moss broke his forearm and will undergo surgery, dealing a blow to the Colts depth behind JT. Giants likely lost C J.C. Hassenhauer for the year to a triceps injury in a depth blow at a position where they drafted John Michael Schmitz in the 2nd Round.

Tim Patrick was confirmed to have torn his achilles :( Awful luck for a guy who was considered the best WR in a group of solid talent in Denver's room. This will make his 2nd straight full season missed.

2023 QB Tiers

The 2023 Quarterback Tiers are compiled by 50 NFL coaches and executives who were granted anonymity to share unvarnished evaluations. This year, the 50 league insiders who placed 30 veteran quarterbacks into tiers included eight general managers, 10 head coaches, 15 coordinators, 10 executives, four quarterbacks coaches and three involved in coaching/analytics.

Tier 1
A Tier 1 quarterback can carry his team each week. The team wins because of him. He expertly handles pure passing situations. He has no real holes in his game.

1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City
2. Joe Burrow, Cincinatti
3. Josh Allen, Buffalo
4. Aaron Rodgers, New York Jets
5. Justin Herbert, San Diego

Tier 2
A Tier 2 quarterback can carry his team sometimes but not as consistently. He can handle pure passing situations in doses and/or possesses other dimensions that are special enough to elevate him above Tier 3. He has a hole or two in his game.

6. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia
7. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore
8. Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville
9. Dak Prescott, Dallas
10. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles
11. DeShaun Watson, Cleveland
12. Kirk Cousins, Minnesota

Tier 3
A Tier 3 quarterback is a legitimate starter but needs a heavier running game and/or defensive component to win. A lower-volume dropback passing offense suits him best.

13. Kyler Murray, Arizona
14. Derek Carr, New Orleans
15. Jared Goff, Detroit
16. Russel Wilson, Denver
17. Tua Tagavailoa, Miami
18. Jimmy Garropalo, Las Vegas
19. Daniel Jones, New York Giants
20. Geno Smith, Seattle
21. Justin Fields, Chicago
22. Ryan Tannerhill, Tennessee
23. Mac Jones, New England

Tier 4
A Tier 4 quarterback could be an unproven player (not enough information for voters to classify) or a veteran who ideally would not start all 17 games.

24. Brock Purdy, San Francisco
25. Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh
26. Jordan Love, Green Bay
27. Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay
28. Sam Howell, Washington
29. Desmond Ridder, Atlanta
30. Gardner Minshew, Indianapolis

lmao Carr is a tier four player or lower on tier three, not at the top of tier three. You can't win with him we tried. We have three of the best players in the league on our team and can't win

I feel like Kyler and Russell are way too high, largely due to their mobility factor. Geno put up a better Russell season throwing last year in a year where he threw it way more than Russell ever has.

I'd put Justin Fields at the top of Tier 4 only because he has to prove it more as a passer. He definitely has the tools but I think he's too unproven (17 TD to 11 INT last year isn't great regardless of the talent around him) compared to Tannehill who should be in that 15-18 area. He has a 3,500+ 30+ TD season under his belt at least... the guy isn't sexy by any means but he's proven he should be higher.

- Patriots re-worked Matt Judon's contract increasing his guaranteed money from $2 Million to $14 Million.
- Bengals extended LB Logan Wilson with a 4 year, $37.3 Million deal.
- Colts signed RB Kenyan Drake
- Seahawks WR Dee Eskridge got suspended for the first 6 games of the year while Saints RB Alvin Kamara & Colts CB Chris Lammons both got 3 game suspensions for their Vegas incident

The goal is to keep it exclusive, but to include everyone who truly deserves to be in what should be an upper room at the Hall of Fame.

Here’s the list, by position. (And, obviously, to get to the upper room, the person must already be in the Hall of Fame.)

Quarterback: Sammy Baugh, John Elway, Brett Favre, Otto Graham, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas.

Running back: Jim Brown, Earl Campbell, Eric Dickerson, Marion Motley, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith.

Receiver: Marvin Harrison, Don Hutson, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Jerry Rice.

Tight end: Mike Ditka, Tony Gonzalez, John Mackey, Kellen Winslow.

Tackle: Walter Jones, Anthony Muñoz, Jonathan Ogden, Art Shell, Joe Thomas.

Guard: Larry Allen, Randall McDaniel, Gene Upshaw.

Center: Jim Otto, Mike Webster.

Defensive end: Deacon Jones, Gino Marchetti, Bruce Smith, Reggie White, Jack Youngblood.

Defensive tackle: Joe Greene, Bob Lilly, Alan Page, John Randle, Randy White.

Outside linebacker: Chuck Bednarik, Bobby Bell, Derrick Brooks, Jack Ham, Lawrence Taylor, Derrick Thomas.

Middle linebacker: Dick Butkus, Jack Lambert, Willie Lanier, Ray Lewis, Junior Seau.

Cornerback: Mel Blount, Willie Brown, Darrell Green, Dick “Night Train” Lane, Darrelle Revis, Deion Sanders, Rod Woodson.

Safety: Ken Houston, Ronnie Lott, Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed.

Kicker: Jan Stenerud.

Punter: Ray Guy.

Coach: Paul Brown, Tom Landry, Vince Lombardi, Chuck Noll, Don Shula, Bill Walsh.

Owner: Al Davis, George Halas, Lamar Hunt, Art Rooney Sr.

Saints are already without Alvin Kamara for 3 games and now lost Eno Benjamin for the year with a torn achilles.

Colts placed S Daniel Scott (5th Round) and OL Jake Witt (7th Round) on IR for the year. Not real losses but never helps a team when they lose guys who could be STers or earn valuable practice squad development during their rookie years.

AK41 should have a longer suspension. I would be going nuclear if the star of one of our 3 division opponents did a similar thing.

Eagles bolstered their LB room signing veterans Zach Cunningham & Myles Jack to 1 year deals. Cunningham's been productive for some bad Houston teams while Jack has been a very capable run-stopper albeit one who's around the ball more than making the solo tackle.

Always about how a team uses the talent they have. I'll take the "WR3" who can get open via scheme/quicks and gets 80-90 catches for 900+ and 6 TD over the "WR2" who struggles and finishes with a 65-850-8 line with uneven week-to-week production because his coaches can't use him right.

Wes Welker didn't radically become faster when he joined the Patriots and suddenly slowed down when he ended up in Denver. Julian Edelman was pretty much the 1B to Gronkowski and teams still couldn't stop his 90+ catches a year despite knowing Brady would literally target him on at least 1 down every 4 downs...

JuJu showed back in 2018 he could be a "#1" in the right system/usage. Parker has a 1,200 yard season and Bourne's flashed big play ability but hasn't put it all together. I don't think anybody is going to mistake those guys for the athletic freaks like Chase/Jefferson/Hill/Waddle, etc. but if they can get open and produce, how are they not a WR1 or WR2 for the Patriots specifically?

More injuries hitting...

- WR Rashid Shaheed is out 2-4 weeks with a groin injury for the Saints. Tre'quan Smith is also dealing with a groin injury.
- OT Tytus Howard of the Texans is out 4-6 weeks with a broken hand
- Rams are bringing back S John Johnson on a 1 year deal where he played for them his first 4 NFL seasons

Harley's Very Early Patriots 53 Man Projection - I'm leaving Jack Jones off pending his hearing situation for the moment but he's a true 50/50. There's also a handful of Patriots that will stick just for their ST ability as usual. They are really deep at LB and I took Anfernee Jennings out only because Mack can play ST too & I don't trust Jennings' health. If a guy like Jennings does make it, I can see it being at the expense of somebody like Isaiah Bolden or Cody Davis but the latter 2 could be key ST contributors.

There's a bunch of guys who will get ticketed to the PS. I think guys like Boutte, Diego Fagot, and Jourdan Heilig will end up there despite the latter 2's potential for ST coverage. This does speak to how deep the Patriots are at positions like LB, CB, and S though.

QB [3]: Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe, Malik Cunningham
RB [4]: Rhamondre Stevenson, Kevin Harris, Pierre Strong Jr, Ty Montgomery II
WR [6]: DeVante Parker, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kendrick Bourne, Tyquan Thornton, Demario Douglas, Matt Slater
TE [2]: Hunter Henry, Mike Gesicki
C [2]: David Andrews, Jake Andrews
OG [3]: Cole Strange, Michael Onwenu, Sidy Sow
OT [4]: Trent Brown, Connor McDermott, Calvin Anderson, Riley Reiff
DE [5]: Lawrence Guy Sr, Keion White, Trey Flowers, Deatrich Wise Jr, Sam Roberts
DT [3]: Christian Barmore, Davon Godchaux, Daniel Ekuale
LB [7]: Matt Judon, Ja'Whaun Bentley, Josh Uche, Jahlani Tavai, Marte Mapu, Mack Wilson Sr, Chris Board
CB [5]: Christian Gonzalez, Jonathan Jones, Myles Bryant, Marcus Jones, Isaiah Bolden
S [6]: Adrian Phillips, Kyle Dugger, Jalen Mills, Jabrill Peppers, Brenden Schooler, Cody Davis
K [1]: Nick Folk
P [1]: Bryce Baringer
LS [1]: Joe Cardona

The story of this Raiders/49ers game will be how bad Trey Lance looks, but honestly, this O’Connell kid looks really good (especially for a 4th round pick).

Good move. Zeke's a year removed from 4.2 YPC 1,000+ season. He also has pretty low usage, usually averaging 14-16 carries per game the last 3 years.

Worst case scenario: Zeke's done and ends up just being a short-yardage guy who scores 6-8 TD on the year and goes elsewhere. Best case scenario: He spells Stevenson as a pass-catching back getting around 60+ catches, gets back to that 4.1-4.3 YPC, and finishes the season around 900+ rushing yards while giving the Patriots a legitimate 1-2 punch at RB.

Treylon Burks will be out 2-4 weeks with a sprained LCL while Terrace Marshall Jr will be out 2-3 weeks with a back injury.

Falcons lost OL Matt Hennesy for the year and the Raiders lost OL Brandon Parker for the season as well.

This scenario could start getting real interesting, especially if any teams suffer a serious injury

"In addition to the (Tuesday) deadline, Holder also reports that six teams have spoken to the Colts about a trade for Taylor, with two teams extending them a trade offer. Next Tuesday is a significant day on the NFL calendar because it’s roster cut-down day when teams must be down to 53 men. Taylor is currently on the active/PUP list and could remain on the list if the team opts not to trade him. If he’s moved to the reserve/PUP list on Tuesday, he’ll be required to miss the first four games of the regular season."

The Giants trade above seems like a steal considering the below trade that Cleveland/Arizona did. Simmons only getting a 7th Rounder? Also speaks to how overrated? most 1st Round players can be when they are fetching 4th-7th Rounders in future years if they don't do well.

- Browns traded QB Joshua Dobbs and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Cardinals for a 2024 fifth-round pick.
- Cardinals traded OL Josh Jones to the Texans. Jones started 11 games last year and was a 2020 3rd Rounder.
- Browns waived QB Kellen Mond. No surprise, the dude sucks as a pro QB. Good college QB but he can go enjoy a long career in the XFL or USFL.

I'm curious what position the Giants look at Simmons as. He was playing all over the place for the Cardinals. I'm always in favor of kicking the wheels on high draft picks for a late rd pick.

Cardinals trading for Dobbs seems kind of wasteful though. Got McCoy, plus the rookie Tune.
