A lot of enticing matchups. A healthy? Aaron Rodgers takes on the San Francisco 49ers on MNF amidst a chaotic churn in the Jets locker room that he's a douchebag (which we've always known). Rams/Lions square off in the Stafford vs. Goff WAR. Payton tries to revive Denver against a new HC in Seattle while Caleb Williams debuts against the Titans. HARBAUGH returns to the NFL and goes up against a hated rival in the Raidahs! Ravens/Chiefs and Packers/Eagles should be fun games in general but the latter is a PEACOCK EXCLUSIVE I believe.

Who's your MVP? Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year? Your team's breakout performer?

Scary stuff with that Pearsall situation. Hope he can make a full recovery.

Well things can't get any worse than last year... right? Giants coach Brian Daboll confirms that he will take over play-calling in 2024

Saints restructured TE Juwan Johnson's contract while Denver restructured WR Courtland Sutton's contract to free up cap space. This should help if either team has to sign somebody during the season due to injuries but I feel like the Saints, year after year, are a literal example of how not to work the Salary Cap as they are constantly pushing money down the road then restructuring contracts just to free up space and not be in the red.

Great first game finish. Lamar missing a wide open Zay Flowers in the end zone only to almost hit Isaiah Likely for the TD if he'd been half a foot shorter from the end white line is kind of emblematic of his career at this point. Can make dazzling plays and is a legitimate play maker but the consistency as a pocket passer can be very 50/50 game to game if he's not completely on. He had 8 games last year with a 70%+ completion rate but combined that with 5 games under 60%.

While the argument has always been about his lack of weapons, I feel like he's far enough in his career now that he should shoulder some of the blame.

Preseason buzz was the OL was not playing great and the OL didn't play great. The highest paid QB in the NFL was tossing off his back foot into double coverage and even when we got down in the red zone we flopped more often than not.
"New aggressive" DC was scared of Hurts running and we didn't use our big money blitzers.
The refs are now 2-0 on the year.
Franchise QB may miss weeks if not longer....

Sigh.

Packers are not landing in Green Bay until 1130 so I wouldn't expect a Love update to leak until late afternoon.

Stat line for the Packers wasn't nearly as bad as it FELT like as the slow death was unfolding. Failed to capitalize on early breaks and stepped on their own dicks at times. The struggling C Josh Myers was hurt the play before Love went down. The Packers rotated the RG snaps to work their 1st round rookie into the mix. Not sure how great that is for building chemistry.

He's expected to play but lol... "NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Tyreek Hill was detained by police after a traffic incident this morning but is available for today’s game. ESPN’s Jeff Darlington shed some light on the situation, reporting Hill was cited for reckless driving and got into a verbal altercation with police before being placed in handcuffs. Per Darlington, “He was cited and released after the situation was de-escalated.”

Patriots plan to start Jacoby Brissett for several weeks in hopes the OL can eventually protect Drake Maye (lol, good luck there). My expectation is they are looking at around Week 6 (Houston, @Jaguars, Jets, @ Titans) since it gets them past the Jets on the road, San Francisco, and Miami at home.

Never easy for the Bills but Miami also sneaking by at least makes Thursday more interesting aka Tyreek destroying us.

Lions need to figure out these offensive lulls in second halves of games, but when the chips were down, they grounded and pounded to glory.

Giants/Panthers may cause a 3rd World War when they play in Germany this year

Patriots had a slightly better ground game but their offensive line continues to be awful (Brissett was running a lot and Stevenson was making dudes miss in the backfield to generate positive yardage). Them having a kicker who could actually make FG helped them get the win but they still struggled to get deep into opposing territory and it felt like Brissett was playing for the field goal on multiple drives.

Great win, defense was stellar, but I'm not sold that the flaws offensively that were there last year are gone and won't rear their heads in the ensuing weeks. Patriots were basically a dropped Gesicki TD and a lost fumble at the goal line by Cincy from losing.

Already seeing some Week 1 fallout...

- Browns signed WR Kadarius Toney.
- S Antoine Winfield Jr could miss 2-4 weeks according to Todd Bowles. Big blow to Tampa Bay's secondary.
- WR Puka Nacua was placed on IR and will miss at least 4 weeks. Rams are still pretty loaded though.
- Washington is signing K Austin Siebert while Pittsburgh is signing P Corliss Williamson (after losing Cameron Johnston for the season)
