People have gotten fired from things for much less damning comments or "jokes" than this, (I'm thinking of the old Kevin Hart tweets he made in the late 00s that got him fired from the Oscars last year specifically) but Fox is gonna Fox. From what I'm seeing, the reaction to Fox keeping Cannon is almost universally negative, but it's Fox so they don't give a shit.
