EA is still releasing a game next year, for Xbox One as well as PS4, titled College Football 15. They still have the connection with the Collegiate Licensing Company, which holds the rights to most schools, bowls & conferences. They only need to negotiate with a select few who've maintained their own rights.

Super old thread but EA released their College Football 25. Sounds like it has a lot of the flaws of Madden in the game play (no surprise) but it sounds like Dynasty is completely trash (the one thing I was tentatively thinking about getting it for) with recruiting issues and a major flaw in the inability to edit rosters or create players to add to teams.

I get the whole NIL situation but I just find it baffling that a game predicated on DYNASTY mode doesn't allow any user offline freedom to edit rosters or players. I always hated the restrictive ability of past Madden/NCAA games at times (e.g. not being able to change a player's position as minor as it may seem) but this is crazy when you're asking people to spend $60+ for a game.

I am deeply immersed in the online college football community and reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Probably a case of accepting flaws in return for the game finally being available again, but also that EA has asked everyone to submit errors as small as stadium skyline details that are to be corrected in patches. I have heard great things about the gameplay nuances and how intricate the passing game and RPO is for example. The major, major complaint I have seen and heard is the camera in the Road to Glory section.

Keep in mind I do not have a current gen system nor do I have the game, obviously. Just passing along what I have seen and heard.

Yeah. A lot of the flaws/issues I've heard revolve around WRs dropping passes, OL continuing to be their shitty selves and do blocking animations over common sense stuff like going through a gap they are pulling into, the old school "Madden" rubber banding at the end of games aka The Broken Controller Improbable Comebacks, and defense in particular related to tackle animations and especially defenders having bad (or non-existent) pursuit angles. A lot of this stuff comes straight from the flaws that have been in Madden for a while too so it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the positive is as you said, folks starved for a college game just being satisfied with that and putting up with the few game play flaws/issues.

Some of that stuff you can kind of get around with higher difficulty levels and/or slider tweaking but that shouldn't be on the onus of the player to rectify from the start for a $70+ title where some folks are paying $100+ and way more when you include Ultimate Team $$ stuff.

I'll be more curious what the reaction is from the community/the positive bros after 4-5 months of playing and the patches that come out, which hopefully don't further bork the game.

All that said, the last Madden I played was Madden 22 and I really didn't like the game play so I mostly did Franchise and even then, after a few months I had virtually stopped playing it and gone back to playing my old PS2 era Maddens (01-05 era) and NCAA Football 2004 (which I'll argue has the best Dynasty mode ever as far as statistics as you could go to 80% Run or 80% Pass and have your RB go for a legit 400+ yard game or 2K season or have a QB throw for 500+ yards or 5,000+ yards while having a "good" RB still get 1,300+ rushing or a "good" QB get to 3,700+ yards).

As somebody who's always been a stat nerd, I've always hated Franchise/Dynasty games where the stats are just out of whack. Madden 05 (or 06) are great for game play but in Franchise, QBs throw too many INT because you have LBs randomly getting 4-5+ picks a year too easily and often so LBs were getting to 20/20 or 30/30 too easily. Some of the later NCAAs e.g. 07/08 the RB stats are out of whack with almost a dozen RBs having 6+ YPC and 2K seasons.

Well, yeah, but there is the term “video game numbers” for a reason.

Nearly everyone I have talked to has praised the animations and its differences from Madden. They have talked about the difficulty and the realistic scores. But no matter how realistic things are made, you are still playing a video game and not watching a game film. It’s the same with wrestling games in that nothing is going to look like a real match.

I do get and appreciate what you are saying, but to me dropped passes and learning curve on passing and kicking games makes the game a challenge, not bad. But again, I don’t have the game.
