Oderus Urungus has died at 50.

Sad news in the music world this morning.

Director Adam Green has confirmed the news.

Thank you to every fan that has reached out with condolences in these early morning hours. I am at ArieScope with Joe and Laura now as we struggle through the night to try and accept that our dear friend is gone. Oderus Urungus has left planet earth to go home to Scumdoggia, and even more devastating, he has taken my brother Dave Brockie with him. I'll try and put proper words together when I can, but for now I just wanted to thank every member of the HOLLISTON NATION for your love and for sending your thoughts and prayers to the Brockie family, the GWAR family, and everyone else who was lucky enough to know Dave in this life. I am heartbroken.

I am so ridiculously glad that I got to meet him twice out of costume (for the record, legitimately humble and insanely cool) and got to see Gwar 13 times.

RIP Oderus. May a choir of crackwhores blow thee to thy home planet.

At the very least, I can say I'm not terribly surprised. Brockie was known as a hard partier, and it wasn't unheard of for him to be on multiple substances at once. Living hard and fast doesn't tend to make you live very long.

Also, what a fucking album to go out on. Battle Maximus is definitely one of the best Gwar releases, right alongside Scumdogs of the Universe and Beyond Hell. It's a bit chilling to realize that the last album was in tribute to Cory Smoot and then to have Brockie go within a year of its release, though.

Shit, never got to see GWAR live, figured I had time and still some chances. Total bummer.

He was a hell of a performer and seemed like a genuinely nice guy. I'm very thankful to have finally seen them three months ago.

RIP.

Still my favorite on stage execution.

So, will they execute him in tribute?
You know, I remember an interview with the 1999 lineup (because Slymenstra was still a part of the band) where Brockie said something about how Gwar could theoretically last for a hundred years because they were characters that could be handed down, but I don't think a Gwar without Dave Brockie is a Gwar I'd support. His attitude and humor are what really drove the band, not the music in and of itself (although they've always been severely underrated on that front).

Replacing the guitarist position was one thing considering Smoot was never seen as THE cornerstone of the band. Responsible for their increased quality and direction of the decade? Yes, but not THE guy. That was always Brockie. I can't see them continuing beyond maybe one or two memorial shows, let alone a full tour.

The thing I'm most surprised at is that he was 50. I know they've been around for so long, but I never thought of him as a 50 year old.

I had a chance to see them when I was about 10 years old. My aunt wanted to take me to one of their concerts, but my mom didn't want me to go. I never got a chance to see them live.

Oddly enough, Juggalo concerts don't draw as well as you'd think. There's more people to see them than probably half of the bands I go there to see, but it's been my understanding that the third concert of Rock N' Shock has always had the poorest attendance and it's usually either ICP or Twiztid.

I read an article a few months ago that said Worcester is the biggest Juggalo city in the East and it's usually the only city ICP plays in New England whenever they tour.

Anyway, media lies to me again!

I don't doubt that (I've seen a lot of Juggalos in the area during daily routines), but it's still not as big a deal as Gwar were.

Wait, you know they're juggalos because they're actually walking around in the facepaint and stuff?

YPOV, if you've ever seen this:

on the back of a car or tattooed on someone's leg—just south of their cargo shorts, usually—they are a Juggalo.

P. sure they're starting to die out ever since a growing minority of them became some weird prison/street/whatthefuckforreal? gang. They still have their gatherings core of fans but there's this weird thing that caught on with smart charismatic lowlifes who managed to recruit some weak minded juggalos.

But what makes the whole thing weirder is the actual criminal area caught on mainly on the other side of the country.

(Friending Brody on Facebook was one of the worst decisions I've ever made!)

I'll stop shitting up this thread with ICP stuff and let Laz and the rest of the Bohabs mourn.

Heroin.

I'm not surprised, really. Heroin and music has a long history, especially on the punk/metal ends of the spectrum (though it's all over the place still), but I was kinda hoping he'd have seen enough people on it to not go near it.

According to Gwar's manager, Jack Flanagan, the Gwar-B-Q is still happening in August.
Forgot to update this months ago when it was 100% confirmed, but yes, the Gwar-B-Q is still on. From what I've heard, the original Beefcake the Mighty will be handling vocal duties.

LINEUP:
Body Count (Sweet)
Hatebreed (Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck I hate them)
Fuckface Unstoppable (Huh?)
Goatwhore (Not too bad, good live show)
Iron Reagan (Decent MW side-project, solid live show)
Kepone (Huh?)
Loincloth (Huh?)
The Meatmen (HAFUCKINGHA YES)
Noisem (Meh)
Occultist (Huh?)
Revocation (Pretty good, drummer/guitarist from my hometown)
Eat the Turnbuckle (HOLY SHIT)

Oh...and special guests...

Saw this lineup a couple years ago and it was a great set, but it's sad seeing what they've become still.
