Does anyone think that maybe we sometimes take this group for granted? Like, everyone just sort of acknowledges that they were really awesome but doesn't put anymore thought into it than that and then just kind of forgets about them when talking about the best raps ever? Because, I mean, I'm racking my brain, and I can't think of another album sequence in the history of hip hop that stacks up to the ATLiens-Aquemini-Stankonia trilogy. And I can't think of a more aesthetically varied oeuvre in the genre. It just seems like, once you drink deep enough from the Outkast well, most other rap music ends up sounding sort of small and impoverished in comparison.

Outkast - Elevator (Me & You)

Outkast - Chonkyfire

Outkast - Prototype

You know when old black guys like Steve Harvey go like "Back in my day, we had real love songs. I don't know what the fuck ya'll doing now." This song encompasses all generations. It's like a deviant from the progression of history where it transcends time.

Yep. Everyone was all over Andre's nuts for Hey Ya!, but as a whole, Speakerboxx outclassed The Love Below. Anyways, OutKast is easily my favorite duo/group.

OutKast - B.O.B.

Listen to this song. Listen to it. This came out almost 12 goddamn years ago and it's still fucking totally next level. Will we ever catch up? I don't know.

This is so wrong that I dont even know. Speakerboxx is just so weak to me. Andre 3000 experimented and it worked.

We do take them for granted. Maybe it's because they made being so absurdly ahead of the curve and awesome seem totally effortless. "B.O.B." completely melted my head the first time I heard it, and it still kinda does. I won't question anyone who says they're the best musicians of our generation, because they probably are. Well, them and Fallout Boy.

Admittedly, I did like The Love Below more than I let on, but there were points where I felt 3000 went too far off the tracks (and I usually go for that shit). Anyways, I still liked Speakerboxx better, and always thought Big Boi got constantly underrated. Played the shit out of Ghettomusick in high school.

I really like Outkast. They had some great tunes. I first heard them when Rosa Parks came out. I downloaded it and played the shit out of it. Miss Jackson is a great song made better from an awesome video. B.O.B. was sick. I think I'll download their stuff tonight when I get home and listen to them tomorrow.

MFer: Speakerboxx/Love Below would have worked a tad better as one album rather than two separate IMO. I always thought it was weird that they decided to release the two albums the way they did. Both kind of struggled in a way, because they didn't have each to play off of.

And I probably like The Love Below better because it was my first semester of college then at the time, and I was starting to get into different types of music. Speakerboxx has a 2-3 great songs and a lot of average stuff.

What's even more weird is that after this album, their output had drastically halted, put out the soundtrack that no one cared about and went their separate
ways.

Andre still hasn't put out a solo album. I hear the odd guest verse every now and then from him, but that's about it.

Yeah, I enjoy Outkast. They're just so goddamn fun to listen to which more than I can say about 95% of the current hip-hop/R&B groups.

Rosa Parks and BOB are my favorites.

Maybe by 2011 standards I would agree, but in a hip hop landscaped absolutely dominated by 50 Cent, G Unit and it's ilk in 2003 it was pretty different.

Yeah, the genre switch really grabbed the imagination of my 12 year old self. I certainly don't have as much contempt for Andre's portion of Speakerboxxx/The Love Below as Byron does. I wanted to do a thread where I listened to all of the songs from both discs and posted about them at one point, probably haven't listened to the full album since 2007 at the absolute latest.

Outkast was my shit back in the day. It's pretty sad that they've stopped making music. Big Boi is still doing his thing, his solo album last year was sick........I have no fucking idea what Andre is up to. I remember reading an interview with him a little while after Love Below came out and he was talking about designing clothes and being a photographer........he's pretty much off the map now. I don't think he liked being a pop star.

I know you can't always trust Wikipedia, but according to them:

It was announced in September of 2011 that OutKast was moved to Epic Records following restructuring within Sony Music Entertainment. Epic Records is headed by LA Reid who has worked with Outkast in the past.[28] Also the next OutKast record is coming in early 2012, according to sources close to the band. "OutKast is on track to release a new album by early next year. Both Dre and Big are working on solo projects; they want those out by the end of 2011.", said a source to HipHopWired.
