Man, I'm way out of touch this year. I bolded the songs I actually like, which is almost none of them. I haven't even heard many of these, which is odd because usually at least I've heard them.

Never will understand the Animal Collective internet orgasm for the life of me, though.

I don't think I get Phoenix. Neither of those songs they put in the top ten are really notable at all.

I was underwhelmed by Merriweather Post Pavillion, but Animal Collective's new EP is a pretty terrific little late year treat. I don't think it's really disputable that this was Animal Collective's year, especially in Pitchforkland, and they're probably gonna get the top spot in the albums list too.

In an effort to get "up" on what's "hip" these days I'm listening to that The xx album. It's pretty rad!

I fully expected there to be some representation from Miley Cyrus on here, be it the wussy ballad "The Climb" or (more likely) the Hova-name-dropping "Party In The U.S.A." Is the notion of poptimism completely dead to these shitbags? I see a Taylor Swift song on there, and that's fine and understandable, but Byron spent weeks pretending to like Miley too, and now you're telling him that an affected appreciation of her music is not a widespread ironic hipster conceit? Bull fucking shit.

I listened to that Girls album. It's pretty good, but "Hellhole Ratrace" is ohmygodboring. I'm glad that "Orange Shirt" made the list though because I thought I was the only one who liked Discovery. I also dig the love on this list for Neon Indian. I thought they'd be the new darlings for the P4K crowd (which I think is me, so maybe they are).

Yeah, I havent been up on 2009 shit. I only have 7 of those albums (Doom, XX, Mos Def, Dirty Projectors, Animal Collective, Raekwon, Fuck Buttons) but have been meaning to get the TuNe YaRdS album after seeing her live. A friend of mine gave me the XX album a few months ago. I only listened to it once or twice. I liked it, but never went back to it. I'll give it some more listens.

My favorite albums of the year are Bitte Orca and Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II.

Out of all the albums listed, I only have the Baroness and Sunn 0))) ones (shocking I know) as well as Raekwon and Antony and the Johnsons. Wish I had known Jim O' Rourke has a new one out. Also, are The Pains of Being Pure at Heart any good?
