Programs cutting off on monitor

[Twisted Intestine]

I have my computer hooked up to my 32" LCD TV and am having problems. At first, all of the text and programs were so tiny that I could barely see them from the couch so I changed the resolution to 800x600 and changed the DPI to large text but now when I try to use some programs they don't open to fit my screen, they cut themselves off so I can't navagate them properly. How do I get around this?

Okay, so I managed to figure out it was the larger DPI causing it, so I guess I'll just live with squinting my eyes to see things.
