I've had the same edition of Nero on my computer for about four years and it has always burned CD's at 40x writing speed, but now all of a sudden it can only manage 10x. I get the same type of blank CD's that I have always gotten, so I am kind of miffed as to what the problem may be. Any help? Thanks

It's not a hardware problem with the burner itself?

I have a 16x DVD burner that can only manage 12x without errors, for example. It used to do 16x when I first got it but no longer.

Or will nero literally not allow you to pick over 10x and other software will?

It has a drop down menu on the "final" burn screen that allows you to choose the speed. It use to have 40x as an option, but now it only offers 10x as the fastest.

I like Nero because it allows me to equalize the audio, edit track length, and "gap skip" the tracks. Baron, do you know another better, preferably free, program that I can use?
