Just saw Tori Amos released a new album and I'm all over her track Reindeer King. Very melodic, long, epic but doesn't feel lengthy. Reminded me a bit of artists like Kate Bush.

I also dig Up the Creek but that's more furious 80s style synth beats (p. bad though IMO) but the vocals propel it up a bit.

I just recently discovered this cover, and I love it more than the original. The original is great, but laid back and I am lazy enough.

This cover makes me want to get off my ass and fire on Fort Sumter or some shit. https://youtu.be/u9Dg-g7t2l4

Disturbed completely reinvented Sound of Silence. Draiman's isolated vocal track is haunting.

Really liked the epic scale of the song, especially that it just kept building up vocally every minute until the end. Really good cover.

This song got better with age, especially Eazy's verse.

Been listening to Brian Fallon a bit lately. Bummer that The Gaslight Anthem are on a break. But his solo work has been really solid. So it helps.

Was on a Cranberries kick. Below This Is the Day is one of my favorite tracks by them, with (IMO) somewhat overt religious tones but it still works really well. Dolores' voice is amazing per usual. I also love the greater variety of instrumentation throughout. Underrated gem in their collection IMO.

And been spinning Within Temptation's Deceiver of Fools a lot lately. I guess I'm a sucker for well crafted, melodic epic stuff like the below. I personally get a WWII vibe from the lyrics but I don't know how intentional that is. I suggest starting at 2:00 (the opening works as a melodic motif but hampers the song IMO) as it makes for more of a straight ahead epic rocker, which better fits.

I saw Deep Purple this summer along with Alice Cooper (best $8.25 I spent all year) and they played this song. They had to lower the key a bit since Ian Gillan is old as shit and can't hit the high notes anymore, but it still sounded good. I thought of Shane Douglas, of course.

Possibly my favorite song of all time. Most people don't even know about it and that is sad. I don't even know how to describe it. Phil Spector girl groups, Ramones, B-52s, John Waters background music all thrown into a blender? Please listen all the way through. Thank you.

Great stuff. There are a ton of little gems hidden from the 1960's, especially within the Girl Group genre of that decade.

For sure, I have that big box set, One Kiss Can Lead To Another. It's a treasure trove. They must have just been cranking these things out for any group of girls that felt like singing in the 60s.

Sinead O'Connor may be one of my favorite voices in music, ever. Just love the power/rage she can bust out (Fire on Babylon being another notable track). Troy was her first hit and released in 1987. Apparently the opening lyrics are self auto-biographical relating to how her mother would leave her & her brother outside at night.

I'll tell you who DOESN'T love "Troy" by Sinead O'Connor (probably) is my neighbors because I belt that shit out about twice a month.

I'm not really sure that I understand the premise of this thread, so I'm going to post a few songs here... If, by "random," you mean, like, a song that I enjoy that people who know me wouldn't expect me to like, because it's not #OnBrand for what I usually listen to, then I would nominate the Man in Black:

https://youtu.be/eJlN9jdQFSc

If, by "random," you're talking about a song that people who know me would expect me to listen to, but be surprised that I like more than more well-known music by that artist/in that genre, then I'll go with this remix of a B-side by Digital Underground:

https://youtu.be/4NzIWf_iEaA

And, of course, if by "random," you mean a song that people are unlikely to have heard of, unless the genre is relevant to their interests, Hikaru Utada is always an artist that makes people ask me, "What the fuck are you listening to, dude?"

Been on a heavy live kick re: Garbage's songs and damn can the band really play live + Shirley's amazing (arguably even better than on CD).

I’ve always had a hatred for country music and anything that sounded like country music. However when I was a kid I stumbled upon Jason and the Scortchers and kinda liked them. I haven’t thought about them in years actually. But I went down a YouTube rabbit hole recently and saw a random video again.
