OK, so this is just an R&B thread, but I didn't want to just call it "The R&B thread". Besides, it's current since most people think R&B has devolved into rap and bullshit anyways. But back to the topic, I love 80s/90s R&B, and to be fair, there are some hopeful acts out today like Frank Ocean. I hear D'Angelo's making a comeback too.

Quincy Jones - The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite)

Anita Baker - Fairy Tales (Music Video) (1991) (lyrics in description)

Rude Boys - Written All Over Your Face

En Vogue - Hold On - Music Video (1990)

Jodeci - Freek'N You

Guy is the best R&B act of the 80's/early 90's hands down. Too bad ego and politics destroyed that group. Aaron Hall is the most underrated vocalist of his time. Wish Teddy Riley would stop fucking around with the 10020202th Blackstreet lineup and get together with Aaron and Damion and do a proper album dammit.

C'mon, Kels is way better at showing off that kind of swag, and his lyrics are a lot better too imo.

Kels copied his whole act off Aaron Hall in the early 90's. And Aaron was around way before Kels. I agree that Kels did it a little better obviously, but he still bit Aaron's swag completely.

Kels even copies Aaron's voice down to a tee.

Listen to Guy and The Future first and then listen to Kel's first two albums Born into the 90's and 12 Play and it's honestly shocking how much Kels borrowed from Guy/Aaron Hall.

Oh yeah, I was still a big R. Kelly fan. R. and TP-2.com are certified classics IMO.

One of my favorite parts of the 90s growing up was the glut of boss female R&B groups. En Vogue, SWV, TLC (bit more popish, but still), Total, Xscape, Changing Faces, 702, early Destiny's Child, etc.

Maybe the success of Frank Ocean will lead to a resurgence in original, creative voices and away from the current, awful scene of generic club bangers. Probably not.

You know, for some reason, I could never get into Miguel. Just seemed like an average cat to me. But that Adorn song is great.

Destiny's Child - Nuclear

This is supposedly the closer to the halftime show. This song is not very good. For this being Destiny Child's only new track, you'd think they'd go harder than this.

I would recommend Inc. if you're into that whole Frank Ocean and The Weeknd scene. They're goofy looking dudes, but their LP has some good tracks on it.
