The Jay Z debate in the GOAT Rapper thread led me to make this thread. Name a rapper that is better than Jay Z and why? After a period time we will compile the list and smugly nod our heads upon completion.

1. 2Pac

Obvious choice here. Iconic in every way. Jay Z rips off some his greatest lyrics as well.

Although I see your point, I'd still rather not listen to a remake of a track Eminem did with Royce da 5'9" slapped haphazardly onto the most important rap album of the decade.

Raekwon. Anyone who wants to try to step to The Chef as far as Mafioso drug lord rap goes better bring their A game. Hov did, and Reasonable Doubt still can't step to Cuban Linx. That said, there are 3, maybe 4 Wu members better than Jay-Z. Anyone who says Inspectah Deck or some shit needs to get laughed out of the thread.

Deck having one good verse is as consequential as Jay-Z stealing lines one at a time.

Jackie Chain's freestyle is ridiculous. There's no way you can watch it without laughing.

the man is an enigma. rhymes shit with shit towards the end a bunch of times rhymes about nothing but weed and then celebrates one of the best freestyles ever spit by taking a swig of his beer at the end.

Jackie Chain is what Yelawolf would have been if he were half-Korean instead of being half-Cherokee.

Not that many because longevity counts for something. Being consistantly good trumps being great one time a long time ago.

For instance: and I am probably going to get yelled at over this. Rae has kinda been blah for years now.

Was he clearly better than most people a long time ago? Sure. What about now though? The only way to avoid this is just not come out with anything new which is why I still rank Rakim and Big Daddy Kane up there.

After people run through their entire rap notebook where they have been writing lyrics for years on their first two or three albums is when it really counts for me.

Raekwon wasn't interesting for a long time sans the occasional guest spot or on The W/Iron Flag....but he came back pretty strong with OB4CL2

Ghostface peaked with Supreme Clientele and has been going steadily downhill since. I liked Fishscale well enough, but Pretty Toney and Big Doe were huge disappointments. I feel like he's just a critical darling who gets good reviews even when his music is stale. I don't care if anybody agrees with that. I'm waiting for this long rumoured collab w/ MF Doom to hopefully revitalize both of them.

The most consistent members of Wu over the last decade have been Deck and GZA, and Masta Killa put out 2 solid albums
