R&B singer/songwriter legend Bill Withers passed away this morning at the age of 81, due to heart complications. He was really one of the greats. Documentary that came out on him in 2009, Still Bill is a really great look at his life. He didn't become a musician until his early 30s. Talks about how he overcame his dyslexia and stutter.

He left music world for most part, outside of rare concert appearances, in the mid '80s when it was clear he felt he had nothing left to add to the music world. He seemed like a rare person that was filled with integrity in an industry where that's a rare commodity.

Live at Carnegie Hall rips and is one of my favorite live albums of all time.

It seems like he lived a nice full 30+ year life before and after his music career so that probably helped his humility.

Great example of why Bill Withers was so awesome.

Withers was from Slab Fork, WV, a small coal town about an hour and a half from where I was born and raised. He was a legend everywhere, but particularly in southern West Virginia.

I loved most of his songs but Use Me is my favorite.
