Awful. One of the very few legitimately nice guys in an industry with an overabundance of terrible people.

Glad he is at peace now. I know he had a rough past couple years and I think some dementia issues.

when you look up the term “underrated” in a wrestling dictionary, you will see a portrait of Beautiful Bobby next to the definition. RIP

I also love the story (and I might be combining two stories tbh) from Have A Nice Day! where Cactus Jack was traveling with Stan & Bobby during his first WCW run in '89-90ish and they stop at a store where there's a really disheveled homeless guy wandering the parking lot. Stan Lane goes in and comes out with two giant bottles of baby oil (perhaps for an evening with Mama Boebert?). Bobby brings the homeless guy in with him and they come out and the homeless guy has a new shirt on and a bottle of wine and Bobby is shaking his hand and handing him a $10 bill.

Just seemed to perfectly encapsulate Stan & Bobby's dynamic.

He always come off as a star to me as a kid even though he didn't have the look or promo skills of the time period. That's how good he was.

Amazingly he was only 32 when the Dangerous Alliance angle started and he had been wrestling close to 15 years at that point.

RIP

Clash of the Champions XV is not a very good show, but Beautiful Bobby and Ric Flair save it from being a complete waste of time with a killer two out of three falls main event match. I've always remembered it because of Eaton's efforts as the plucky babyface challenger who comes up short. Just rewatched it; it still holds up as a good TV main event.

I loved to hate the Midnight Express whenever they dispatched the Mulkeys or another pair of jobbers on NWA World Wide Wrestling back in the day. Bobby executed a good top rope kneedrop. His Alabama Jam set the standard for top rope legdrops too, at least for me. He also had a pretty sweet mullet that he kept well after the hairstyle went out of vogue. Bobby Eaton made pro wrestling look easy, kinda like how Arn Anderson and Cowboy Bob Orton did in their day. One of the best.

They were supposed to go longer and had a big match planned out but the event ran long and they had to shorten it significantly. They had an even better match in 1990 on Main Event that may be Bobby's best singles match.

Definitely a great match. Just watched it on YouTube after seeing your post. Although I did enjoy babyface Beautiful Bobby, this match does better playing to his strengths. Fiery babyface Ric Flair is also a sight worth seeing. Can't remember if I saw this one on TV or not, but I did watch Main Event pretty regularly at the time. Best Eaton singles performance? Sure, I won't argue against that.

I think what got me the most about the later Clash match was that I hadn't expected Bobby to elicit such a sympathetic reaction from me watching it on TV as a 13-year-old. I figured Flair would just steamroll him, albeit in entertaining Flair fashion. Eaton sells his leg injury like a champ; it cost him the second fall via countout. Flair traps him in the figure four and it looked like his leg was bending the wrong way and about to snap. I never thought Bobby would actually win the match, but I got behind him a lot more than I thought I would at the beginning.

You can also count me as a fan of Earl Robert Eaton with Lord Steven Regal as the Blue Bloods. I'd laugh so hard at the vignettes of Regal attempting to civilize the marble-mouthed Alabama hick. There was one where they went to Nicole Brown Simpson's house; I think it was during the OJ trial too. Eaton finds a black glove in a bush, freaks out and tosses it away.

Oh yeah, the Blue Bloods skits were hilarious. Bobby (and Regal, too) were great in that gimmick.

I think it's still considered a bit of a disappointment for some reason, but I've always really liked the Bobby/Arn match from Superbrawl 91. It's not a **** 1/2 classic, but it's a really well worked and intense little match with the biggest moment of Bobby's singles career. Bobby got a great reaction when he won iirc too. Fans wanted to get behind him in 91 big time.
