This one really sucks. The first Cars album is one of my favorite albums of the 70s', and "Drive" is one of the best ballads of the 80's. RIP

Damn The Cars are the soundtrack for some of my earliest memories. Also, in my adult life, one of my friends was my DD so often, I made "Drive" their ringtone.

Their synth sound epitomized their time period, but still stood apart from their contemporaries enough to be unique and notable, and bigger than a typical 80s one hitter.

The Cars probably have at least 3 or 4 songs on my personal Top 50 favorite classic rock songs. But one of my Facebook friends said that The Cars were such a versatile band that they seemed just as comfortable fitting on an alt rock or Top 40 playlist as they did classic rock.

Also let's not forget Ric Ocasek's great production work with Weezer and Bad Brains.

RIP
