Aka the lead singer of crazy town. I remember people hated on Czech for saying the butterfly song was good but he was right, it is. I remember seeing this guy on celebrity rehab and he didn’t seem to be taking it seriously and it felt like a matter of time before he OD’ed. He had a DUI last year. No cause of death yet but not hard to speculate.

Hardly surprised. The Double Toasted podcast was covering a recent performance of the band a little while back, and it was such a rough watch/listen.

Shame he didn’t get to turn things around.

I bought the Gift of Game as a naive 14 year old way back in 2000. I enjoyed it at the time but quickly grew out of CXT. A shame he couldn't overcome his demons.

Three people texted me this news. Also he got his own thread while I made a catch all classic rock stars RIP thread. Obviously he made a lasting impressions and people think I’m a bigger nu-metal fan than I am IRL.

“Starry Eyed Surprise” is a legit fun song. And “Butterfly” did leave a more lasting impression than 99.9% of the genre. Sad end! Last I saw he was doing better and dating Soleil Moon-Frye(!) but that was probably 2-3 years back now.

The older I get, the more nostalgia I have for Nu-Metal. I even unironically like a few Limp Bizkit songs. Slipknot is a band that has really grown on me as has Mudvayne. But, I didn't really fuck with Crazy Town that much. I think my brother had their album and I listened to it once or twice.

That said, he was memorable and had more presence than a lot of Nu Metal frontmen. He seemed likable on Celebrity Rehab as well.

That was me and I haven’t changed my opinion about the song being straight ass. But I was hoping he would turn it around and get off the drugs. And I give him credit for smushing Soleil Moon Frye. This is the third member of Crazy Town to die, actually.

I always forget DJ AM was in Crazytown.

Also I feel obligated to point out that they did the theme music for Destination America era Impact Wrestling. It did seem like a bad omen that they debuted on a new network with new look, new commentary team and theme was from late era Crazytown!
