It's a real shame that he was never able to keep himself clean. My friend saw STP when Weiland was still with them a few summers ago and told me he looked and sounded awful. It just broke my heart. There was also a similar report from a few months ago with his current band so it really was a matter of time. STP wrote some damn good tunes so this is a shame.

RIP.

This could have happened any time in the last decade and I wouldn't have been surprised. Always sad to see someone waste talent and go down an addiction hole that they can't get out of.

Absolutely gut wrenching from a "loss of talent" standpoint. I got to hear them in 2010 and they were outstanding. He looked lively and into it.

FUUUUUCK!

And Mrs. SFH is going to take it hard when she wakes up and reads it. She gets caught up into fandom a lot and takes their deaths pretty harsh. She's a huge huge Weiland fan.

This is depressing as shit. I was a HUGE STP fan when they came out with "Core" back when I was in high school (shit that was a long time ago), but "Purple" solidified their status to me as one of the top bands of the 90's. "Interstate Love Song" is one of my favorite songs ever.

Was going to go see him and his new-ish band The Wildabouts next week when they came to town.

Shit.

One of the few concerts I attended during my high school years was a STP show in the fall of '96. They were touring behind Tiny Music, and it was such a great show. There was this aucoustic portion in the middle where they had a lounge room built up high above the stage, so cool.

RIP

Got a bullet but it ain't mine

Shitty news. :( :( :(

Any idea what the cause was? Ie: was he still using or was this years of past use catching up?

Interesting. I saw STP at a local minor league baseball stadium in July 2011, and it was awesome. A year later, though, Weiland was back in town for a solo performance that was, by all accounts, a complete trainwreck. I guess that encapsulates the nature of his career and battles with addiction.

I'm grateful to have attended that 2011 show, though. That's the Weiland I want to remember.

Passed away in his sleep is what's being reported but we won't know for sure until after the autopsy. Gotta believe even if he just passed naturally that all the years of abuse caught up with him.

Yeah, that really sucks. He was 'only' 48 too which is still pretty young.

I'll always adore the video for "Sour Girl" alone. His stuff with STP was pretty memorable/good.

"Purple", "Tiny Music" and "No. 4" are genuinly great, fun rock records. RIP man

So, whose gonna be the first to come in here and go "lol STP/Weiland sucks" or troll the thread ala Czech or alfie in the Alice in Chains thread?

Dear Scott,

Let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us.

Together we crafted a legacy of music that has given so many people happiness and great memories.

The memories are many, and they run deep for us.

We know amidst the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again.

It’s what made you who you were.

You were gifted beyond words, Scott.

Part of that gift was part of your curse.

With deep sorrow for you and your family, we are saddened to see you go.

All of our love and respect.

We will miss you brother,

Robert, Eric, Dean

That last post and this give me the feels. :(

I half thought this open letter was written by bps before I saw the end. He talked a lot about that RHCP/STP show in Buffalo!

Understand the sentiment and why Mrs. Weiland is pissed but I don't think anyone was glorifying Scott Weiland, as a human being. I've never seen so many RIP posts on Facebook with the term "Well, it's hardly a surprise" in them.

Yeah... I kinda get her reasoning in relation to his parental ability towards their kids/losing him to his demons years ago but I don't think anybody's glorifying him as a person or the actual tragedy outside of the typical assholes trying to make a profit off a celebrity death.
