Yeah, this is actually happening. Classic horror game series Silent Hill is back, with Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and famed horror movie director Guillermo del Toro involved. Walking Dead TV show actor Norman Reedus is the star.

...

So this kinda came out of nowhere, huh? Well, not entirely. An allegedly terrifying demo called P.T. was announced and released during Sony's Gamescom conference, and people flocked to the PS Store to download it. It turned out to be a teaser for this mega-project, as opposed to a demo for a new horror series as everyone first suspected.

The whole stunt is very much in line with Kojima's penchant for bait-and-switches, mostly recently seen with Metal Gear Solid V's "The Phantom Pain" reveal gag. Even P.T.'s developer, 7780s Studio, turned out to be a big fat phony. Oh Kojima, never change.

Well I basically hate almost everything Kojima has done, and haven't liked any of Del Toro's work in the horror field so....yeah this probably won't be for me.

Wow, well that (the P.T demo) was fucking intense. I don't think I've been that unnerved by visuals in a horror game in years.

I'll admit to not having seen those. I was talking about his more mainstream horror movies.

The only "mainstream" horror movie I can think of that he's written was Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.

I played PT today. I like some of the ideas that were there, and it was quite unnerving in places, but the repetition quickly wore out it's welcome. As much as I like the idea of Kojima and Del Toro working on the next game, I really hope this isn't indicative of what's in store.

It isn't. When you finish it states that the demo is for teaser purposes only and will not reflect the main product. It's basically just a piece of viral marketing.

Ok so I just watched the GB quick look of the teaser (since I don't have my PS4 on the road and can't play it myself) and maybe I was too quick to rule out this game. It at least has my interest now, to the point where I think it'll either be incredible or incredibly bad. Now to wait...probably a year and a half to find out.

It looks incredible and as fun as P.T. was to play, the trailer for the actual game shows how basic it was in comparison to what they have planned.

Honestly, I liked the playable trailer's concept for a game. They'd need to figure out how to bring down the repetitiveness of it, but honestly... I think they will likely lose a lot of people if the game isn't somewhat similar to it.

The playable trailer reminded me a lot of an adventure game.

Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.

In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.

Yeah this kind of sucks. Judging by the latest Silent Hill game....the franchise was pretty much DOA, until PT came along and then the footage of what was coming next. If that is no more, I am not so hopeful of the future of this property.

Apparently there is an online petition that I read was getting a lot of support but I still doubt anything comes of it.

At least on the US store they have made it so you can't download the PT demo even if you already had it on your account. Of course it remains playable if you downloaded it before it was removed, but if you have any issues where you lose your download it's gone forever.

That is a really shitty practice, IMO. If that ever happens with something I actually PAID for, I will be legit pissed. With PT, again it does suck, but I had finished it already and was very unlikely to play it again.
