Does anyone know of some real good maps on the maps menu that have less water, and more of a chance to let you build a Megalopolis? Has anyone here created a Megalopolis?

I think Bob was right about some posts not warranting threads.

But, for real. Is there any reason to play the SNES port over the PC version? I remember liking the console version alright when I was younger, but having a keyboard and mouse was a world of difference.

The SNES version had Bowser instead of a salamander thing. That was p. awesome.

For realz SNES was my first thought, actually. Even then, though, I think I'd go PC. The mouse man, the mouse.

I was always adamant about my cities running on nuclear power and without fail I had a Chernobyl every fucking time.

I could never get my city up past 150,000. Kept bitching at me that I needed more industrial zones, but bitched at me about my pollution

My first experience with SimCity was the SNES version. So many hours sunk into that game! I used to pick maps that had little water as well, and usually with it near the bottom of the map so that I could still creat a small port for ships.

I've only played the PC version a handful of times and I don't remember much of it. I own the VC on the Wii. I like the SNES music, William Wright as the adviser, and I hate that my Sims keep complaining about more roads.

Hint: If you want a waterless map, complete all the scenarios. It will unlock a waterless map.

Question: How you put out fires in this game? I have a few fire departments in my city, which are funded. When a fire happens, I don't know what to do. I'm used to the other Sim City games where you have tell them where to go.

1. #061 (main series) 85.50% land
2. #137 (main series) 84.80% land
3. #728 (main series) 84.75% land

maps with the least amount of water.

I also prefer the mellow music at the beginning of the game

I always turned off natural disasters. I still built fire depts. as requested by the city, but I couldn't be bothered to deal with fires/floods/etc.

In earlier games, I liked having the least amount of water, but in later games (SC 3000) I liked to raise the water level in the terrain editor before starting in order to create a city of 3-4 islands on which to build. I'd also flatten the land to maximize building space.

In Sim City 4, I would have some large cities with all flat land. Smaller cities would have lakes, rivers, and large hills.

I don't know what your guys' goals are but mine are to have a large population and to generate lots of revenue.

I've never ever had a meltdown in any iteration of Simcity and Nuclear has always been my go-to until I could develop/afford Fusion power.

I could never top 375-400,000. Industrial zones are the quickest way to build a population, but then you need spaces for so much other shit. The cities on YouTube are insane. I was planning on buying a $10 copy of the SNES game when I got paid again that I found at the local store. I'll write about it no doubt.

Have you guys read about the new SimCity that is coming out next year, I think.. Looks pretty awesome. Apparently the citizens in the city you build live Sims like existences, doing their own things and going to jobs and such. Pretty crazy how far this series has come.

I went over in another thread about how to best go about getting the largest population possible and it's not all that difficult. RCI balancing was always a little annoying though. Also for the record I'd rather play the SNES version over any other. It was fantastic.

Agreed. I have tried out tons of other versions and none have been as fun as the SNES one was.

I read an interview with someone working on Sim City V or whatever they are calling it. One thing that bothers me a bit is that it will play like Farmville in a way, where you have to make friends online and join a region where you have to trade resources back and forth to finish projects like solar farms. I prefer Sim City to be a single player game where you craft your land as you see fit. I wouldn't like to allocate resources just so I can build a big stadium.

Yes, that is a shite part about it for sure. It's also apparently a game that needs to be online ALL the time.

If you get 600,000 or something you actually "win" the game, with Dr. Wright congratulating you for being the shit in a message that's separate from the Megalopolis one.

I spent way too many hours of my youth playing this game, and I am proud to say I actually did achieve 600,000 population. The newer simcity games are way better but none have that "Charm" of the SNES version.

I've never thought to play any of the newer Sim City games. I think I torrented one and never got around to starting it. I imagine if I can get 4 on the cheap my interest in now renewed.

I was never good at the newer Sim City games. I hated having to deal with running water pipes under the ground and all of that shit. I always fucked something up early on and could never recover.
