So the new Eminem single/video is pretty awful...right?

Start an album with the comedy single: check
Pick on whatever random celebs are current: check
Mix those two things today and come up with a good single and video: ...uhh

Eminem - We Made You [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO NEW APRIL]

So yeah, I'm not a big Eminem fan or anything, but his stuff is usually alright. But this one's just not good. Maybe I've just outgrown his wacky antics and sidesplitting humor.

I have a feeling the people who liked Emimem back in the day (people who were in high school from 1999-2005) are going to ignore this big time. I used to love Emimem, but Encore really killed some of his mystique.

The Eminem Show was his last great CD, his best as well IMO.

This album might have a few good tracks that might make me buy it. But I ignore first singles on every album he does. Except D12 World since "My Band" was a well written song. For his solo shit, first singles are just shit.

Yeah, we discussed this briefly at the old board. I didn't care for his other song "Crack A Bottle". This one isn't very encouraging to me either. Waiting too long definitely didn't help, but it just seems like the quality of his music is going down anyways.

Yeah. Even his pop singles were good (I liked them at least). Encore was garbage and this is sad. I don't understand why he changed the way he flows and now he added a dumbass accent.

I doesn't seem horrible. Just the usual Slim Shady track more interested in mocking than lyrics. The beat just isn't nearly as catchy as the ones that made him a star. But it would be pretty forgettable during his heyday. Its a bad way to come back after so long.

I had really hoped he had grown out of this Slim Shady stuff. I get that it would be silly for him to ignore what gave him pop success, but there's a shelf life on how long you can be a buffoon before you look like one. You get big enough and get enough money and became a star yourself and suddenly picking on other celebrities becomes a lot more childish. Its like getting wasted at 21 and getting wasted at 26. One weekend you just realize you've passed the point where it was acceptable for you to behave like such a child. And its not like Em isn't without his share of stories about being the sort of self important celeb who "should" be mocked.

I like Eminem a lot and he's always been a much better rapper than his pop stuff suggested. Which is why Marshall Mathers was such a breakout and why I tend to enjoy the half of his album that wasn't released more than the half that he had hits on TRL with. And usually I tend to enjoy the 2nd or 3rd single released after the funny Slim Shady pop things.

So I'm not going to judge the album on this track. Eminem's albums have always been pretty balanced between the pop, hip hop, and some gangster stuff. Until I hear otherwise I'll assume this one is too.

Although for the life of me I can't even remember Encore to remember if he kept the format there.

The difference between this song and "Without Me" "Real Slim Shady" and "My Name is" is that the latter 3 are actually pretty decent songs and you could understand what the hell he's saying. This new song is him talking like he's 5 years old with mediocre lines and twice as much crap.

Yeah, I think that's what it most reminded me of. And that's my only major problem. I don't know, tastes may vary but I'm not going to regard "My Name Is" or "Real Slim Shady" as much more than childish pop. There was a decent rapper behind them but they were a step away from a Weird Al bit. I can't swallow that stuff from a nearly 40 year old who has shown himself to be as much a self important celebrity as the people he mocks.

I didn't have much trouble understanding his lyrics and it didn't strike me as any more childish than the other Slim Shady stuff. But yeah, the lyrics are lame and the beat is forgettable (and kinda clunky). Its a dud of a song. But it doesn't strike me as disastrous, just more of what Eminem seemed to have outgrown (even if he didn't realize it) with "Ass Like That."

3 AM isn't horrible but nothing to excite me about the album. I'm prepared for it to suck but I'm willing to at least wait and see if its got a strong "B side."

I didn't like that song either.

Yeah, that was very bad.

And as it's been said, what's with this unexplained accent that he raps with sometimes? It just sounds stupid. To hear a whole track with it is pretty bad.

I liked his first two albums pretty good. Everything hit pretty good on them. But starting every album with a comedy track making fun of celebs...it's a little tired

Well, it's a pretty big step up over 'Crack A Bottle' and 'We Made You' but it's got its own problems as well. It is pretty different though, I'll give it credit for that.

Ew Marshall, you're bathing in people's blood. You're so goddamn hardcore and scary... ::)

And as the original poster said - I was an Eminem fan until D12 World/Encore came out and that just killed it for me. I dont think he has had a good song since 2002 - and ironically his last great song (Lose Yourself) was also his biggest and best.

Stop misusing "ironically." This is the 2nd straight thread I've been in where it's been misused. I'm looking at you, luke-o.

In unrelated news regarding Eminem but related as far as new singles go "Kinda Like A Big Deal" (Clipse feat. Kanye West) is a banger.

For all the people Em made fun of for dropping off, he's kind of like them. It's like he has become the Limp Bizkit of rap. Shit was fun during middle school, and there's a few good songs there but always heavily overrated.
