I played through world 1 last night and this game is AWESOME. While when it was originally announced I was picturing a Mario 64 style game, 3D Land is more like if Mario 3 had been in 3d. Or more accurate if all of the old 2d marios were in 3d environments. The first battle with Bowser was amazing.

Tanooki Goombas FTW!

And now for a different point of view:
Peta Are whiney bitches
The People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals are blasting Nintendo and their beloved gaming plumber Mario over what they claim is a message that it's OK to wear animal furs.

In Super Mario 3D Land, which was released this weekend, one of Mario's many power-ups is a Tanooki suit which grants him the ability to glide across the screen after jumps. The suit looks more like a one-piece jumper or costume than it does a fur, but PETA says the game is sending the wrong message to gamers.

"Tanooki may be just a 'suit' in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur," according the the PETA Mario Kills Tanooki website. "By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur."

On the Mario Kills Tanooki website, players can turn the tables on Mario, taking on the role of a bloody and skinned tanuki chasing a surly Mario as he drifts through his familiar world, a trail of blood dripping from his suit.

"Tanukis are real-life raccoon dogs who are beaten and, as PETA's undercover exposés show, often skinned alive for their fur," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "This winter, everyone can give raccoon dogs and other fabulous animals a 1-UP by keeping our wardrobes fur-free."

I played Super Mario 3 when I was a kid more than any other game and now my wardrobe is nothing but fur coats

Where the fuck was peta 20 years ago. Or where was peta when you could wear the turtle shell in New Super Mario Bros. Or hey, what about the fucking frog suit or the fucking bumblebee suit. Fucking worthless assholes.

More to the point, I went through world 1-1 three times and couldn't find the second star coin. I'm getting old as hell.

World 1-3 I played about 5 times and can't find the damn 2nd coin. Also missed one in the World 1 castle. I'm debating if I want to move on to world 2, or stick with a world until I find all the star coins.

Re: World 1-3 2nd coin:

After the first flagpole, turn right and jump on the multicolored music note block. It'll take you to a special bonus round in the clouds where you will get the 2nd coin.

Turns out it was the first coin not the 2nd that I couldn't find. Finally found it yesterday after figuring out that you have to find Toad with the telescope to get some coins to appear.

Beat world 2 last night, Super Mario 3 airship FTW.

Fun game. I don't like how in the newer games its so easy to get extra lives (I think I'm up over 80 now in world 6), but I've needed them. Not that the game is that hard, I just have trouble wrapping my head around some of the jumps and I'll aim terribly and miss the landing.

So after playing the shit out of this game for the last two weeks I think I've finally reached the point where I can put it down. The requirements to unlock the last last no seriously this time we mean it final level are ridiculous and going to take forever, so it's going to be a long time before I ever achieve them. Overall though this game fucking owns. So much content. So much fun. Nothing gives me more joy than running from that little purply Mario fuck the whole level, then getting the star and killing him. LET'S A GO, TO HELL BITCH!

329 star coins, 5 stars on my profile, and I beat S8-Crown with both characters. I'm gonna call it a game.

Hell of a game, if only they could have had it ready at launch it would have sold a lot more systems.

I was at a StreetPass Los Angeles event for Mario Kart, but I got a bunch of Super Mario Streetpasses. The mystery boxes I got included a room with 2 star coins and 20 1ups. That was nice. Annoyingly, unlike other games like Street Fighter which has a limit of 10 passes, Mario only has a limit of three.

Mario also takes the non-Mario streetpasses you get and turns them into item rooms.

Tried playing the demo last night at Target but some geek kept leering over my shoulder snickering at my incompetence. The little bit I played it seemed fun. Might have to actually get me one of these 3DS systems.

(yes it's not lost on me that I'm bitching about a geek while playing a game in Target)

I played the demo the other day and displayed no incompetence. In fact, I beat the World 3 Airship. Go damn I am the best.,

Shit I just picked up someone's paused game. For all I know it was a higher level. I haven't played an extensive amount of Mario since SNES. I OWNED Super Paper Mario on the Wii but got bored with it. Also played the "New" Super Mario game with my sis on one of her leaves but again it was just social playing and not a serious attempt at accomplishing anything.

Picked up a 3DS at Best Buy Sunday night with the current $50 gift card promo and bought this game. Only had time to play through and beat World 1 so far, but this definitely shoots down any doubts I had on getting the system.

Got through the first world myself. Still adjusting to some of these jumps though.

Put your 3DS code thingies in the Gaming ID thread.

Smues, I added you as a friend ages ago, you still haven't added me back.

I didn't even know where the option to add friends was, I never used it before. Just added you, assuming you're 'Ted'

Wow, I thought that final Bowser battle on New Super Mario Bros. Wii was epic, but this ramped it up several levels. Anyways, I have all the regular Star Coins, but I'm pretty sure I still have other stuff to do in this game.

That final battle was amazing.

If you want to unlock the last level you've got to beat every level (including all the S levels)
with both Mario and Luigi
, AND get a golden flag pole on every level. And of course get all the star coins from every level, s included.

It would have saved me a lot of time had I known that from the beginning. Instead in most levels i was like fuck it I don't need the 1-up and didn't even try.

Same. Then again, if I were to try, I could probably get it. Just need the raccoon suit every single time.

Shit, I'm debating whether I want to start all over and try and get the shiny stars. I'm at S3-5 right now (with Mario) and I still have a bunch of golden flagpoles to get. It's probably not even worth it since you don't get anything extra (I think).

I was pissed when I learned about the shiny stars, since I found out after I was well into the S levels. But I didn't feel like starting over at that point. So I have five non shiny stars, and I started a second file to try and get the shiny stars on, though it's very unlikely I'll five star that file. Really made me mad since I never even used the stupid golden leaf, but I did die enough for it to appear in two levels (that fucking saw level in world 7, holy shit did that whoop my ass for awhile.)

Finally beat the whole game. The final, final level wasn't that bad actually (of course, I made sure to have two leafs in tow though) once I figured out what to do.

I probably will pick up a 3DS soon. Gamestop has the Super Mario Land 3D bundle for $180, which is about $20 cheaper than the same bundle at Target.
