This past Christmas, my parents bought me the Sony DVDirect VRD-MC6. It's a portable DVD burner that (allegedly) allows one to burn DVDs of camera files (photos/videos), computer files, and directly from a VCR. I was bought this due to my vast collection of taped-from-PPV wrestling tapes as a means of cleaning up some space.

It doesn't fucking work.

I've looked up troubleshooting tips for it, I've read through the manual a dozen times, and I've even attempted to use a TV as a midpoint. Nada. Whenever I connect my VCR it allows to view playback but won't let me record, giving me the "NO INPUT FOUND" screen.

So...any advice on how to just rip from my VCR to my laptop so I can do it that way? This device fucking blows.

Does your VCR have front and back inputs and did you try them both? I doubt that makes a difference, but my DVD/VCR combo has you select which inputs you are connected to before you can record or playback anything.

Just rear input/output on mine. It's a late 90's Sanyo model.

I know that RCA/USB adapters exist, but I've been having one hell of a hard time finding them.
