Wow. I don't even know where to see videos anymore outside of Youtube. I've seen 3 of these vids tops, and the Em video is the worst thing he's ever done.

That last category is an interesting one. 5 years ago I'd say it would go to "Sabotage," because the video for it is still fantastic, but now? It wouldn't surprise me to see OK Go get it. I'm not knocking the video for "Here It Goes Again," but it's no "Sabotage."

Whatever happened to that "Quadruple Threat" award from a couple years ago? Probably the worst name for an award in history.

Any word on who's performing this year? Not that I'll watch, but I'm sure they'll never be able to top "fat" Britney Spears from a couple years ago.

I just had to look up what the fuck video beat Sabotage out... And it was Cryin by Aerosmith. Alicia Silverstone's popularity just couldn't be denied.

Is this show still known for controversial stuff like two girls kissing, and stuff like that?

I haven't watched this show in a few years.

3 AM and Crack a Bottle were both better videos than We Made You.

The last category is interesting.

Does this show still get good ratings? No one I know watches it but that probably has to do with the generational change.

MTV itself has turned away so many fans by ignoring music. I haven't watched this show in years, and I used to make it a point to catch these shows.

I'm not sure how Death Cab, Gnarls Barkley or even the Yeah Yeah Yeahs qualify for Breakthrough Video but hooray MTV!

Although a lot of this stuff isn't too great, it still far surpasses the nominations for this year's awards. Is popular music really this bad now?

Is it just me, or aside from the last catagory, there's only about 8 or 9 songs being nominated and have just been nominated in every single category?

To me, Breakthrough would be just making their name. Death Cab and Gnarls Barkley have had popular songs in the mainstream for a few years. Between Wedding Crashers, The O.C. and radio play, Sound of Settling has been around for like 5 years now. Crazy was really popular by Gnarls in like 2006. I don't have an extreme amount of music knowledge but I've heard of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs from a while back now too. None of those I would consider being breakthrough acts, but Czech is right too, pretty much everything about this is why. Bizarre choices for awards that really have no significance, especially in current times.

Except that breakthrough video is supposed to mean it features some sort of revolutionary technical or creative achievement not that it was an act's first big hit and you didn't even bother to Google it before you complained about it did you LivingLegendGaryColeman

Also, I suppose LLGC's complaint was this year's version of "Best New Artist? I knew about them two years ago!" which comes up in every year's version of this thread.

The show itself is unwatchable. So it doesn't matter what dipshit they throw out there to host.

FUN FACT: Despite being nominated four times, Michael Jackson never won a VMA for Best Video of the Year.

I'm not watching the VMAs, but Facebook has exploded in Kanye West hate. What'd he do?

He interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech to say "I just wanna say Beyonce made the best video ever!" He then left. Taylor Swift looked like she was about to cry.
