Also the Minions series has a large audience of children who unironically enjoy the movies. Only people who unironically enjoyed Morbius are absolutely no one.

Also, I'd add number 5...if you can sit through these films not under the influence of some greenery, kudos to you.The Minions really are a perfect kids' creation when you think about it...
#1: Great color scheme, easier to pick out in a crowd of characters
#2: Large, expressive eyes and an easy shape to follow. Incredibly unthreatening in concept.
#3: They aren't verbal or erudite so you don't have to worry about following the dialogue. Brains can fill in the gaps/easily follow the slapstick humor
#4: It's classic slapstick humor harkening back to Looney Tunes. I counted multiple previews before movies where adults chuckled/laughed at the on-screen antics.
I still think the 1st Despicable Me holds up pretty well. The 2nd is fine and the 3rd I can't really remember anything about tbh. Also, I'd add number 5...if you can sit through these films not under the influence of some greenery, kudos to you.
I actually checked out Minions 1 for the first time recently and....hey I'll admit it, I fucking enjoyed it. Granted, I was deep in a sativa haze.....but still. I thought the first one overextended into a totally mindless but funny flick.
Unfortunately, the sequel didn't bring much that the first film had, but there were moments. Ultimately though, it didn't entertain nearly as much as the first one did.
Can't really comment on any of the Despicable Me films, but considering the Minions films are (I think?) essentially prequels to the other ones in the franchise, I'm half ass considering watching them now, perhaps blunted.
Yep, it's summer, I have too much time on my hands, and I'm stretching for ideas!

August is historically up there with January and February for worst months for movie releases and is a dumping ground for filler. I'm surprised it's getting think pieces.Box Office: August Revenue Tumbles 43 Percent From Pre-Pandemic Times
The slowdown caps what was otherwise a golden summer for Hollywood and theater owners as the box office recovery boomed, and (gulp) moviegoing almost hit normal levels.www.hollywoodreporter.com
Can’t find the box office thread but yikes
The top movie over the weekend was "The Invitation" (not the movie from the 2015-though I recommend that one) and the week before it was the new "Dragon Ball" movie (which took a bit of a tumble this week). The most notable bomb was George Miller's new movie "Three Thousand Years of Longing", which MGM didn't seem to promote outside of maybe social media ads. I had a feeling it wasn't going to set the world on fire-it probably would have done poorly even if it had come out 20 or 15 years ago-though at least then it likely would have gotten more promotion, even if it's a hard sell for major audiences.August is historically up there with January and February for worst months for movie releases and is a dumping ground for filler. Hell @Gary hasn't even updated this thread in three weeks cause there's been so few notable new releases!

It's an ambitious and dare I say, foolish project in some aspects. I think the idea is that Cameron is hoping theaters embrace further technology in 3D, 4DX, etc, in coordination with furthering those avenues with better projection options, better 3D options (Dolby 3D seems to be the latest direction vs Real3D). I think the second part will do alright, but I question the rest trailing off if the second film isn't as compelling as the first.I'm genuinely curious how the Avatar sequels do. I'm not cynical or stupid enough to predict it's going to be a bust but for all of the money the first one made, it left such little cultural impact.
