I think I've narrowed it down to the big ones that really stuck out for me. And in order as well.
1. The Last of Us
2. Assassin's Creed IV
3. Grand Theft Auto V
4. Lego Marvel
5. Tomb Raider
The Last of Us, as said above has one of the best narratives I've ever played. And I could play 10 more games on that Uncharted style engine. On top of the great story, for the short time it held my attention at least, the multiplayer was excellent as well. So to include a great MP in an already packed game. That was something.
ACIV, I think will revitalize the franchise, and I haven't even finished it yet. ACIII did a lot to hurt it. I think this one has eased many of the fans fears. It's ridiculous how seamless the combat is now. Half the time, it's more fun to just run into a gang of guys and counter and slash the hell out of them rather than be stealthy. Which is also great again. Stealth can be fun. Yay! And let's not even get started on how great the Ship/Pirate portion has become.
GTA...is freakin' GTA. Great story, great visuals. Love to see the power of the current gen consoles pushed to their limits. Enjoyed the city, the customization. Lots of content. Be interested to see what they do different possibly in the rumored next gen releases. Lots of fun to be had once it started working.
Lego Marvel. As a DC fan, I wish this was what Batman 2 was! Sadly I felt like Lego Batman 2 was just...Lego Batman, but you could fly to different objectives with Superman. That's it. Didn't really need any of the heroes, and that sucked. But they seem to just keep taking more and more of the good from the Lego Games that they have done, and are slowly molding it into the perfect package. This game is amazing. And I love that there's actually a lot of comic book fanservice.
Tomb Raider seems like it was forever ago, but I know I really enjoyed it. Great to see a remake actually done right. Good reinvention. Great combat in the game. The cinematics and visuals were awesome, even better when I saw them on PC. I actually had fun collecting stuff on the map. I like when they make it easy for you lol.
Honorable mentions to Beyond:Two Souls, which I rented and beat in two days...but overall, it was a great movie. So, it was a great game. I love the Quantic Dream style and hope they continue with more of the same. Also, even though I've beaten it before..and yet still somehow got legitimately lost for an hour in the first 30 minutes of the game...I'm so happy to see the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD release. Great to be able to pull it out and play it on current consoles, and it only bolds well for future Square titles as I've already seen the trailer for the Final Fantasy X remake. I can't wait.
