I'll post my top list next week, but here's the thread to discuss. Seemed like a solid year for games with not one really standing tall above the rest; I predict a lot of different #1 games on the lists that will come out.

A helpful "list" of everything that came out this year! Might make it a bit easier. Damn, half the stuff in the beginning of the year I didn't even realize were 2013 games. I'll have to think on a a small list too and come up with maybe a Top 5.

Things I liked in no particular order:

Tomb Raider
GTA5
Bioshock Infinite
Saints Row 4
The Wolf Among Us Ep1 (where the fuck is episode 2?) and Walking Dead season 2 ep1
Dead Rising 3
Peggle 2
Lego Marvel
Runner 2
Brothers: Whatever the subtitle was

I haven't played Arkham Origins yet but I'm sure I'll like that too. I'm playing Max: The curse of brotherhood right now and I really like that...but I think I'm about to hit the difficulty spike and that opinion will turn with frustration.

My hands-down GOTY is The Last of Us.

Honourable mentions to (all PS3/Vita): Borderlands 2, Hotline Miami, Retro City Rampage, GTAV, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Within, Dragon's Crown, Saints Row IV, Diablo 3, Lone Survivor. I'd say that's the group of games I got the most time and fun out of. I'd tack on the PS4 version of DCUO onto this list, but I'm sure it only counts as a port of the PS3 version - even though it feels like a revamped experience.

Side-note: I also skipped Arkham Origins. I loved the first two and I heard this was "more of the same" - which I am totally fine with. I guess nitpicky reviewers weren't. Either way, I'm holding out for the final edition after all of the DLC is out.

Most insane fun:
Saints Row 4, just holy shit that game is such fun insanity

Best cut scene:
"It's fucking Cable" from Deadpool. I've never enjoyed a segment as much as I enjoyed that one.

Biggest disappointment:
Aliens: Colonial Marines...die in a fire Gearbox.

Oh yeah...I loved Deadpool. I don't care what critics say, I played the shit out of that game and enjoyed every second.

I think I've narrowed it down to the big ones that really stuck out for me. And in order as well.

1. The Last of Us
2. Assassin's Creed IV
3. Grand Theft Auto V
4. Lego Marvel
5. Tomb Raider

The Last of Us, as said above has one of the best narratives I've ever played. And I could play 10 more games on that Uncharted style engine. On top of the great story, for the short time it held my attention at least, the multiplayer was excellent as well. So to include a great MP in an already packed game. That was something.

ACIV, I think will revitalize the franchise, and I haven't even finished it yet. ACIII did a lot to hurt it. I think this one has eased many of the fans fears. It's ridiculous how seamless the combat is now. Half the time, it's more fun to just run into a gang of guys and counter and slash the hell out of them rather than be stealthy. Which is also great again. Stealth can be fun. Yay! And let's not even get started on how great the Ship/Pirate portion has become.

GTA...is freakin' GTA. Great story, great visuals. Love to see the power of the current gen consoles pushed to their limits. Enjoyed the city, the customization. Lots of content. Be interested to see what they do different possibly in the rumored next gen releases. Lots of fun to be had once it started working.

Lego Marvel. As a DC fan, I wish this was what Batman 2 was! Sadly I felt like Lego Batman 2 was just...Lego Batman, but you could fly to different objectives with Superman. That's it. Didn't really need any of the heroes, and that sucked. But they seem to just keep taking more and more of the good from the Lego Games that they have done, and are slowly molding it into the perfect package. This game is amazing. And I love that there's actually a lot of comic book fanservice.

Tomb Raider seems like it was forever ago, but I know I really enjoyed it. Great to see a remake actually done right. Good reinvention. Great combat in the game. The cinematics and visuals were awesome, even better when I saw them on PC. I actually had fun collecting stuff on the map. I like when they make it easy for you lol.

Honorable mentions to Beyond:Two Souls, which I rented and beat in two days...but overall, it was a great movie. So, it was a great game. I love the Quantic Dream style and hope they continue with more of the same. Also, even though I've beaten it before..and yet still somehow got legitimately lost for an hour in the first 30 minutes of the game...I'm so happy to see the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD release. Great to be able to pull it out and play it on current consoles, and it only bolds well for future Square titles as I've already seen the trailer for the Final Fantasy X remake. I can't wait.

That's what I played that came out this year in about the order that I enjoyed them, pretty much. I should be getting Mario 3D World for Christmas and that should slot on there somewhere, too.

No memorable games for me this year. Metal Gear Rising was probably my favorite but that was just ok.

The Last Of Us - A strong story elevated the Uncharted engine even more. The situations this game puts you through are pretty tough, leading up to a conclusion that leaves you needing a few drinks.

GTA 5 - It's GTA so there is that, but I've never been a 100% type of gamer, but I noticed that GTA 5 happened to be the game I've gladly done more side mission stuff than any other game before I completed the story line. I am at around 70% completion rate and still having a blast. And then you add the online aspect which I didn't care for at first, but playing with actual friends enhances the experience greatly.

TellTale Games - Since we only have 1 episode of The Wolf Among Us & 1 episode from season 2 of TWD, I decided to lump them together instead of listing them both. The Wolf Among Us took a successful formula and improved small aspects of that gameplay style. I was not familiar with the source material going in but I am fully on board. TWD S:2 Ep 1? What can I say, looks like it is going to be another gruesome experience.

I really enjoyed Last of Us. Great story, great gameplay and graphics, and just an enjoyable experience all around!

I didn't have as big of an issue with the ending as a lot of others did and I've never seen so many people salivate over fucking Giraffes before.

I think Zelda is my GOTY. Just pure fun and the reason I bought a 3DS.

The rest in no particular order:

Tomb Raider
Papers, Please
GTA V
NHL 14
WWE 2K14
BioShock Infinite
Assassin's Creed IV (surprise of the year to be sure)

Haven't played many games this year but The Last of Us, Link Between Worlds and Tomb Raider all stood out as being pretty great.

Played through Infinite again. Fuck everything I said, this is my GOTY. Playing it a second time gave me such an appreciation for the story it told and the last 20 minutes is still mind blowing.

Oh forgot about Infinite. Yeah that's the only game this year that kept me engrossed the whole time like when I was a teenager. Definite game of the year.
