Having remembered that my PS3 is backwards compatible, I threw in a game that consumed my life I'm fairly certain for an entire year or two when I was 11 and 12 years old. Throw in playing Oasis' "Morning Glory" non-stop and the combination pretty much typified my mid 90's life...

The Game?

How I felt a sense of accomplishment when I finally cracked 38.0 on the half pipe to get Gray, the alien who could throw down 1200's and 1440's like it was nothing. It also introduced me to a lot of the tricks of snowboarding and I have to admit to being surprised that snowboarders weren't throwing down 1080's and 1200's in 1998 and 1999 like this game had led me to believe was standard practice.

So what was that one game or two that pretty much defined your childhood in your eyes?

Probably Super Mario World on SNES. I spent a lot of time with that one.

Final Fantasy III. Leveling up like crazy with Celes so my entire party would be overleveled after the world change was always great fun.

NES - Zelda 1 & 2 for sure. Also: Kung Fu, Ghosts n Goblins and of course Mega Man 2.

SNES - Final Fantasy "2" and "3" as well as Super Mario World.

N64 and onward, I was 18 when that came out so I guess it wouldn't count as my childhood. ;)

Ninja Turtles for the NES. Though I never managed to beat it until I bought it a few years ago for the VC, I was the only kid at my school who ever got to Shredder. Took me forever to be able to even beat level 2, but I wasted so much time on it I became the master at that stupid water part and could get to level 3 with my eyes closed.

Bases Loaded 2. Trying to figure out biorhythms for your team for optimized performance is a lot to ask an 8 year old.

Also SMB3 and later the NHL series for Sega.

As I stated in the wrestling game thread the N64 era was totally consumed by the THQ games. I remember when I unlocked the boxer on World Tour. I was blown away. That series was the only one I HAD to get new.

Xeno....actually I think I played SO2 the most. I replayed it over and over to recruit the different characters and try the other difficulty settings.

Going back farther than that, Tiny Toons games were the best. You had Cartoon Workshop and Trouble in Wackyland, both excellent games. I wish I could have hooked a VCR up to record some of the stuff I made with CW. The Genesis games were good, too. I liked Buster's Hidden Treasure, but ACME All-Stars may have been the best sports game ever to that point.
