Fun Fact: Maybe it's just me but the 1960's seemed to have much faster tempos than later decades as it seems the decades relied more and more on "mid-tempo" as the pop song staple.

Yeah, I came to post "Be My Baby". Many words have been written over the years that describe it as the "perfect" pop song. It's the perfect length and hits you from the very first note.

Bumping this: New article up at Culture Crossfire​ covers the 45" Single and pop song history from the 1950s through the present day, along with the effect of radio on how pop songs are presented to the mainstream audience.

Interesting to see that even the modern day charts really haven't changed much in regards to what radio deems an ideal length for pop songs and singles.
