Anyone interested in doing something similar to this?

Basically, choose 4 (we can vote on less or more) games from your backlog to complete during the given month. They can be games you started playing at any time in your life. You can speed run the main story or do every side quest. It's up to you. Just make the best attempt to finish the main game by the end of the month.

I was also thinking we could even add DLC expansions to count on their own as well. I haven't finished all of the expansions for the original Borderlands so that's something I've always meant to go back and complete.

We can also use this thread to post progress updates or frustrations.

You can use this site to gauge how long a given game normally takes to beat: http://www.howlongtobeat.com/ - this could also come in handy if we have themed months where we are tasked to complete larger games (Mass Effect, etc).

So, who's up for 4 games in August? I'm going to give it a go, either way.. All except for one on my first list are all fairly new games.. I've just been distracted by other games (usually just multiplayer stuff with friends that're not necessarily games that you complete) lately and haven't had a chance to really dive into them.

Re: The TRTSM Monthly Gaming Backlog Challenge

:-\ Ugh, I'm going to regret it. I haven't touched anything outside of OOTP lately.

My four would be Tales of Graces F, Project X Zone, Fire Emblem and Persona 4: Arena. That's my current backlog of games I haven't finished off. At least X Zone and Fire Emblem are sort of recent. I may need to restart Graces and Arena entirely.

Cool! I've added your list to the first post! Let me know if I got any of the platforms wrong. I also assume you meant Fire Emblem: Awakening?

Yes, Awakening was the one I was speaking of. Add in the other things I need to accomplish and these is going to be entertaining.

I don't know if I'd call it a backlog, but I started Mass Effect 1 with the intention of playing all three in a row by the end of the year, but Saints Row, GTA and Watch_Dogs will probably make that impossible.

This isn't a bad idea as my backlog is too huge right now. Although anytime I've plated recently has been dedicated to finally doing the Borderlands 2 DLC... I may look when I get home tonight to see if I can figure out a doable 4 to commit to.

Re: The TRTSM Monthly Gaming Backlog Challenge

Well considering my backlog stands at about like 80 games, I guess this sounds like a good idea. Go ahead and list a few I'm already playing anyway, but really need to complete.

-Dragon Age II (PS3)(What I'm working on now)
-Dishonored (PS3)
-DmC Devil May Cry (X360)
-Star Trek (X360)(Bought this super cheap when it first came out to beat, and then resell at a higher price...and then never actually played/beat it lol.)

My mass effect trilogy playthrough started in December... I'm still trying to finish it, tho I am halfway #3.

I'll warn you right now. You'll be playing a bugging game with poor game play designs. It is going to frustrate you.

Re: The TRTSM Monthly Gaming Backlog Challenge

Made some good progress in Deadpool and just a few missions in SR3. I'm focusing mainly on the main missions for the latter since I think all of the side stuff might add too much time to the clock.

I'd like to participate in this, but there's no way I could actually pick 4 games and stick with them. I always just play whatever feels right at that time.

For me, that's how I end up getting into a backlog situation in the first place, lol. ;)

I have a huge backlog too, but at the same time, I don't look at the majority of it as a backlog. If I stop having fun with a game, I stop playing it. I don't feel a need to complete games that I'm not enjoying.

I'm a bit more restrained with my game purchases, which is why I rarely have a backlog; the last game I bought was X-Com during that XBox sale and I'm not planning on getting another until SR 4.

Oh yeah, no doubt. If I'm not liking a game, I won't continue with it, either. Majority of my backlog is due to getting distracted with work and then subsequently getting distracted with another new game. I feel compelled to at least finish the story mode of the games I'm lagging on to get my money's worth before a trade-in. ;)

Re: The TRTSM Monthly Gaming Backlog Challenge

Its usually this way with all backlogs. Somethings come up and you put the game down and just don't pick it back up. Like Tales of Graces F I probably haven't played for in 3 months? Its one of the reasons I'll be starting it from the beginning.

Though it took blackmailing someone to get the game, could you swap out Project X Zone for Tales of Xillia? Since two of them were started from scratch, I figured I might as well make all 4 games from scratch. ...and I really didn't want to start X Zone again. *shudders*

Re: The TRTSM Monthly Gaming Backlog Challenge

You got it, dawg! I was also pretty disappointed with PxZ. =\

--

I've also made progress with Saints Row 3.. I think I must be getting close to the ending as the story just keeps getting more and more out there and has made some "no going back" changes to the city itself.

Deadpool, I haven't gotten back to since late last week. This Genosha area is driving me insane.

Re: The TRTSM Monthly Gaming Backlog Challenge

PxZ just frustrates me in that they padded the game with the same crap I don't like in FE:A classic mode and a lot of static strategy games use now. It drives me nuts that I'm nearly done a stage or half way through it when the baddies get a reinforcement for the sake of giving them a reinforcement. I haven't touched it since I hit stage 22 and that's a large part of why I swapped it out. And really it should only be doing that near the end of the game, not near the half way point!

My progress has mostly been on FE:A. Hit stage 10. I could probably pick up the pace, but stopped to work on relationships again.

Re: The TRTSM Monthly Gaming Backlog Challenge

Alright, three more to go.

I loved Saints Row 3. Did some side stuff, but mostly kept to the main missions, while upgrading often and playing dress up semi frequently. 18.5 hour total playtime.

Munch's Oddyssee is pretty fun so far, but I can see myself dropping it because of the dated controls. Maybe I'll just get the hang of it, hopefully. I love the Oddworld universe, but have never completed any of the games.

Re: The TRTSM Monthly Gaming Backlog Challenge

Have made crazy progress in Dragon Age II, and all I can say is...Holy hell this game is long. I had no idea.

I got to what I have always assumed was the end game, only to find out there's an Act 3. I'm 43 hours deep, with what seems like still a fair bit of missions to go. I'm loving it though, so I can't complain.

Yeah, repetitive dungeons aside, I had a lot of fun with DA2 as well. I really can't wait for 3/Inquisition.

Re: The TRTSM Monthly Gaming Backlog Challenge

And I finish Earthworm Jim HD after a pretty easy 4 hour run.

Assassins Creed and Dead Island are games I'm both about 80% of the way through, so they shouldn't take long. Infamous is fresh and I can't wait to start it.

This is a great idea, but if I had time to play four games in a month I wouldn't have a backlog. :(

Re: The TRTSM Monthly Gaming Backlog Challenge

We could change the "rule" to something like 1-4 or 2-4 or whatever works for a given individual. As long as you're accomplishing the goal of clearing games from your backlog feel free to join in! ;)

Re: The TRTSM Monthly Gaming Backlog Challenge

Could make it so that anything not finished one month carries over to the next, so if you list 4 and only finish the first 2 then the next 2 will go to the top of the list next month.

With that I guess I'll give it a shot..

1. Borderlands 2 DLC - Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty
2. Back to the Future: Episode 1 - It's About Time
3. Saints Row 3
4. Torchlight II
