The TRTSM Monthly Gaming Challenge
September ~ December 2013

Objective: Pick any number of games, current or backlogged, full-game or DLC add-on, and list what you'd like to complete* by the end of the month.

*Complete could mean anything from simply finishing off the story mode for the game, or getting 100% on challenges and achievements/trophies. It's up to you. As long as you have fun and feel motivated to clear out some of your backlog while playing current games, it's all good!

If you manage to clear your queue for the month early, and you have the time for more, feel free to pop in here and add more games to your list.

You can use this site to gauge how long a given game normally takes to beat: www.howlongtobeat.com

Last month's games on this list please, as I haven't beaten a single one. Though I'll probably finish off Fire Emblem by month's end for sure.

Cool! Added both to the list... and yeah, GTA is going to be in the mix for sure. I was originally going to have that as my "new" game but I figured I'll probably be spending a lot of time on the online mode as well, so there's no way I'd finish the story within a month. Went with a Suda 51 theme instead. ;)

I was also going to add Dishonored to the list, but I didn't realize that I was actually only 2 missions away from the end-game and ended up finishing it off the other night. :)

I meant to say I liked Shadows of The Damned. Felt it was like a less polished Resident Evil 4 in terms of gameplay with the signature quirky Suda 51 style.

Yeah, I didn't want to add GTA to the list because I want to take my time with it.

I started it last night and I gotta say, I didn't want to put it down. I really like the back and forth between Garcia and Johnson. :)

Played like 3 hours of Dead Island and made 8% story progress.

This is gonna take a while. Especially with GTA incoming.

I doubt I'll finish SR2 in the next two days, so September for me will be

Saints Row 3
Torchlight II
Borderlands 2 DLC - Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage
Dead Island

I'm working through Saints Row IV and then I'll probably get swept up in Madden/back into OOTP/maybe Franchise Hockey Manager if my finances improve to actually play a game with an ending.

I enjoyed the resort part of Dead Island, but the city section is doing nothing for me. It's like a Call of Duty map with zombies. And the sewer section just feels like padding.

I finished Guacamelee and Blood Dragon.

Guacamelee is really fun, although I was expecting more wrestling moves in a game about a luchador. Still though, good game, especially for fans of Castlevania. Blood Dragon makes me want to check out Far Cry 3 eventually.

Not the biggest challenge since they're both about 5 hours a piece. But I'd guess it's going to take another 30 hours for Xillia to end.

Christ how long is this game? I've put like 12 hours in and it tells me my story progress is at 53%.
Lol, this is a game that's been in my backlog for quite a while and I've had the same problems as you. The island part of the game? That was fuckin' awesome, and a great introduction. Didnt' get tiring at all. Even going all the way from the 'Diamond' area to the 'Gold' area or whatever it was.

But as soon as I hit that church? Act II I suppose. The game just began to feel horribly outdated or something. Which is weird, because it's the same mechanics. Maybe it does have to do with that part looking like a COD clone or something.

I'm still enjoying it since I'm getting better gear and the analog control is much more fun to use, but the tedium of beating up the same three or four zombie types is starting to wear on me. And there's so little attention paid to any plot that I stopped paying attention to cutscenes a while ago.

Congrats! :)

I crossed off Saints Row 2 for this month - there's no way I'm going to get to the rest of that game (especially being the open world genre of game that it is). I added in Diablo 3 in it's place as I'm pretty sure I can at least make significant progress in the story mode, if not finish it outright.

Finished Dragon's Crown's Infernal Mode. I've spent about 70 hours on this game total covering every difficulty.

I wonder if I can conquer Xillia before Grand Theft Auto takes up all of my gaming time.

I'm just powering through Dead Island to get it done at this point; everything past the resort just isn't interesting and they just don't offer much variety in the gameplay to justify a 20+ hour quest.

And Dead Island is complete. That final battle was terrible
The antidote turns White into a Megathug because.....science?
. Haven't played a game like that in a while where I liked it less and less the more I played it. It's worth $20, but know that once you reach the city, the best part of the game is over.

Xillia is done. Finished everything on my list. I don't know whether to feel accomplished or embarrassed. A bit of both. I'm just glad it's all done in time for GTA.

Finished Normal mode on Diablo 3. It throws you right into Nightmare mode after that.. but I think I will slot finishing that and the other modes for another month. ;)

Just fell into Saints Row 2 for...this is the fourth time, now? I think my September backlog will match my August one with one finish.

About to beat Saints Row 3.

Someone pick for me next:
-Assassin's Creed Revelations (360)
-Infamous 2 (PS3)
-Uncharted 3 (PS3)
-Saints Row 4 (360)

or I can switch off my brain and play Lego Batman on PS3 since my friend got it for me for my b-day.

My next plan after I finish these is to attack the entire God of War series, Bioshock Infinite and GTA 5. But I don't want to put those into the que until I finish the others.
Of course this could all come crashing down if I get the Skyrim GOTY edition.

Modified the thread to be ongoing for the year, instead of starting a brand new one every month. I'll just update the first post to reflect the current month and archives for the year.

September wasn't as successful for me.. I kind of anticipated that, though, with both Diablo and GTA V coming out mid-month. I've added GTA V as my first game to finish for October as I'm pretty sure I'm close to the end of the story mode by now.

I'd do Saints Row 4 to finish the franchise, especially since it closes a lot of SR3's plot holes.
