I don't feel like it's a coincidence that this era started just as the War on Terror was starting.

I think I mentioned this, but in high school I tried to spend a day sounding like him. I only lasted 10 minutes.

I could do a decent Ja Rule impersonation back in the day...

Ja Rule ft Case - Livin It Up (Official Music Video)

Ja Rule - Always On Time ft. Ashanti

Anyways, my music tastes are as derivative as they come, so of course I loved Ja Rule when he was one of the hottest artists going. Couldn't tell me nothing about the Jay-Z/DMX/Ja Rule triumvirate circa '99. Even though 50 busted through the mainstream gate with GRODT, I still hated him for killing Ja's career (to be fair, Ja was already starting to dig his own grave).

I think I regained it tonight! I went to a Hannibal Buress show tonight and the rapper that was the direct support for the show* was playing a bunch of quick clips from '70s/'80s slow jams and asking the audience who they were by and I was the only person who knew who Minnie Ripperton was!

*I'd say it's pretty weird that a rapper was the opening act for a comedy show but then I might get my ghetto pass revoked again!

Ja Rule and Treach from Naughty by Nature are playing the House of Blues across the street from Fenway Park in May. Starting a Kickstarter to buy tickets.
