I'll only bother talking about #1, which was easily Lividity @ some guy's house in or near Milford, Illinois around 2002.

Lividity is a porn/gore outfit from the area that is an absolute riot live. Completely over the top and disgusting. Song titles like "Anal Action Wife." People were passing around really rank porn magazines and bongs, and the toilet was quite literally overflowing with shit. Shitty toilet paper was stuck to the walls. Whenever anyone opened that door, nearby people would yell "Yeeeeeeahhhh!" and clap. The place was just fucking destroyed.

Most fun I've ever had.

Prince and Andrew WK are the untouchable top tier, miles above most possible life experiences. Lots of other good ones, with the Boredoms, Radiohead, TV on the Radio, and the first time I saw the Go! Team standing out as the most exceptional of the lot. Seeing the Wrens with about 90 other people was really awesome too.

As for a serious response, Les Savy Fav at the Knitting Factory in NYC and Sigur Ros at the Tabernacle in Atlanta (both 2003) remain tops for me as far as live experiences.

Morrissey and The Evens have been my standard bearers for a good while now. I don't know that I could make a top ten list, though. Dan Deacon, Melt-Banana, and Torche were all really good.

The Evens were fun. I saw them in the backyard of a house in a rather ghetto neighborhood. Ian Mackaye's between-song banter was delivered almost as if he were a children's show host. Storytime with Uncle Ian.

He even asked everybody very politely to sit in a semi-circle around him before the show started.

My buddy wanted to go ask him when the next Fugazi record was coming out after the show. Thankfully, he refrained.

Speaking of Fugazi, they were pretty great live. I saw them before The Argument came out, when they were working with the dual drum sets. The second time I saw Mastodon is up there for most memorable shows, but I don't feel like compiling a list of ten.

I haven't yet been able to resign myself to the fact that I'll probably never get to see Fugazi live. Maybe I should have slashed Ian's tires or something.

In no particular order.....

Bruce Springsteen (Boston Garden '09)
Andrew WK (Warped Tour '04)
Dropkick Murphys (many times - best was probably St. Patrick's Day '06 or '07, and special mention to...)
Dropkick Murphys/Mighty Mighty Bosstones (Lowell '08 - great to see them together)
Bloc Party (House of Blues '09)
Alkaline Trio/Hot Hot Heat/Bravery (Roxy '06)

These are probably my favorites, although there are a ton of other great ones - TV on the Radio was great, Aerosmith was wicked fun live, I saw Rancid, Bad Religion, and the Offspring all rock at various Warped Tours, Green Day at Gillette Stadium was fun, the Foo Fighters and Weezer in Worcester in 2006 or early '07, a Foo Fighters/Pete Yorn/My Morning Jacket show in 2003, I saw Cake and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs do free shows at City Hall in Boston, and a bunch more.

Worst? Sitting through Finch, who randomly had to open for Cake at that free radio-sponsored show. That was hell.

No, that was the only time I've ever been there. Very nice place, though. People seemed nice.

I see we've been to some of the same shows, Poopington.

I went to a really fun Dillinger Escape Plan show at The Keswick Democratic Club in Louisville, KY. The place was smaller than most bingo halls, and they didn't have a stage. Place was absolutely packed, and was completely destroyed as well. The guy who was clearly in charge of the place made attempts at controlling everyone for awhile, but ended up just standing by the back door, completely aghast.

That show was also the first time I ever heard Daughters!, who I loved immediately.

That reminds me of the time that I saw Fear Before the March of Flames and Russian Circles at this little VFW up in Arlington Heights. All ages, no stage- just like a basement show. I'd bet money that my friend and I were the two oldest people who paid to get into the show. We were literally right there in front of the band.

TOP TEN LIVE ACTS (YOU HAVE EVER SEEEEEN)

I haven't been to that many shows, so I can rank them in order

1. Kamelot/Epica - September 2006
2. Leaves Eyes/Blind Guardian - December 2006 - Mainly for Leaves Eyes epic 25 minute set. Blind Guardian stunk up the place. Must have been having a bad night.
3. Paradise Lost/Nightwish - November 2007
4. Eve 6/Our Lady Peace/Third Eye Blind - August 1998 - Our Lady Peace tore the place apart. The other two were kind of just there.

TOP TEN LIVE ACTS (YOU HAVE EVER SEEEEEN)

Instead of live acts, I'd rather do shows, in no particular order:

Radiohead
Indianapolis, 2008

Can't say enough about them than what has already been said. The fact that it was outdoors on a beautiful August night and everything clicked was also a big positive.

Shiner, Aina, The Capitol City Dusters
Champaign, 2002

Sadly, the second and last time that I would get to see Shiner before they would break up. Aina was a good rock band, but I remember little else about them. I became a fan of the Dusters, who are/were a Dischord group out of D.C. I still play the album I bought from their merch table from time to time, but I haven't actively kept up with them in over a half a decade.

The Flaming Lips, The Sun
Champaign, 2003

Never seen the Lips live in concert? Then you must. The most fun I've ever had at a show hands down. And they played my favorite songs (Race For the Prize, Lightning Strikes the Postman, etc.). The Sun were supposed to be the next big thing. They played their entire first EP that night, which also meant they played the best stuff they recorded. I wonder what they're up to now.

Girls Against Boys, Pele, French Kicks
Chicago, 2002

Good fun overall. I was a big GVSB fan at the time, and they played a number of my favorites. They really read my mind that night. Pele is a great instrumental band and I became a fan of French Kicks that night (their singer also drummed!). That is until they came to Champaign the next year and their frontman turned out to be a total dick.

Metallica
Champaign, 1992

Ah, my first concert. I remember very little, except these guys played what had to have been a three-hour set. Rumor has it that they are responsible for this giant crack that sat, untreated, in the Assembly Hall dome for a near ten-year stretch of time. Look for the Assembly Hall marquee near the beginning of the 'Wherever I May Roam' video. I was there!

The Life and Times, Russian Circles
Champaign, 2006

I've seen TLAT many times, but this one is my fave. Russian Circles are a great instrumental outing and are always great in person. Well, both of these bands are. If you live in the Midwest then you probably have the opportunity to check either one of them out every now and again. My advice would be to do so.

Bouncing Souls, Avail, The Unseen
Chicago, 2004

Okay, the Unseen sucked, but they're not why I came out. Avail was great fun and Bouncing Souls played a really good set (East Coast, Fuck You!).

The Number 12 Looks Like You, HORSE the Band
Champaign, 2007

I had a great time at this one. Both bands were a lot of fun, and I got really drunk and slam-danced. Something I usually don't do. I could have ranked this one below the Eels show from 2003, but I got so hammered at that one that I remember almost nothing.

Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle
Indianapolis, 2000

The complete NIN package was quite the experience live. Even as a casual fan of their music, I knew most of the songs. What I didn't I became a fan of. I was in general admission, and I'm glad that I taped my nipple piercings up before the show.

Tool
Chicago, 2001

I actually saw them twice in 2001, but this concert was two days after the release of Lateralus. Though time has strained my interest in this band, I still hold this show in high regard. The fact that it was the first-time I had ever seen them, coupled with the intimate setting (they were playing the Riviera) made this show enjoyable. I saw them later that year at the Rosemont Horizon, at it wasn't the same for me.

Honorable mentions:

Living Colour, Champaign, 2003 Good while it lasted, but cut short to make room for the DJ. Blah.

Fear Before the March of Flames, Russian Circles, Chicago, 2007 Would have been better if Fear Before weren't touring their third album.

The Life and Times, Centaur, Ume, Chicago, 2005 Great lineup. Actually, it should break the top ten. I prefer HUM to Centaur, though.

HUM, Shooter Jennings, Champaign, 2005 Because it's fucking HUM! SJ played a great set, but I didn't know much about them then.

Make Believe, Champaign, 2006 Tim Kinsella is a riot. Catch one of his two-hundred bands if you get the chance.

I saw Russian Circles once, and actually found them to be pretty boring. Instrumental wanking with little to no sense of composition.

OLP are awesome live. I've gone to see them twice.

I don't think I've seen ten acts altogether but here's my top 5:

1- Muse, Summer 2006
2- Paul McCartney, Summer 2008
3- Our Lady Peace, Early 2000 / again in Early 2003
4- Foo Fighters, March 2008
5- Green Day, Late 2004

Indeed. I can't believe I forgot Pearl Jam. Fuck me that was immense. I was crazy on mushrooms for it too. The Hold Steady's performance from 2007 probably belongs on my list too.

I also saw the Foo Fighters in March of 2008 (Vancouver) and I'd rank that as my favorite show of all time.
A close second would have to be the Iron Maiden show a couple months after that at the White River Amphitheater in Seattle.
