Okay, I have absolutely 0 idea where to post this.. Tech?

I've been given a 50cc moped, which, unspectacular as it sounds, would still beat cycling the 250 miles a month i'm doing each and every month.

Anyway, i've passed my CBT & i'm now insured, does anybody have a general idea how much an MOT would cost & basic repairs?

Everybody i've asked only knows the answer to normal things like cars.

Okay, original problem out the way. Bike meets all standards now except one. The horn won't work. However it will work absolutely perfectly once i've been driving for about five minutes, I tested it about 40 times on the way home and it was absolutely fine.

The problem is when you turn the bike on, it just won't work at all. So when they MOT it, it doesn't work. I can't tell them that it works fine once i'm moving because they have to stick to their ways of testing it.

Anybody have any idea why it works once i'm in motion and fades away to nothing when I start the bike up?

Highly unlikely but perhaps the airhorn gets air from an onboard compressor that gets filled during motion?

Besides that i would pay to get it serviced. Its worth doing with every second hand vehicle regardless of what the previous owner says.

Well like I say the bike is absolutely fine now apart from two things. One is the horn and the other is the fuel gauge doesn't work. But that doesn't really bother me as such as i'd just constantly top it up every week. But I REALLY need it to pass its MOT. I don't want to risk going to work on it before I get it taxed because I have amazingly bad luck with everything and i'd get pulled over for something routine and get caught.

It's the sort of thing that happens to me.

The last five months i've been cycling six miles each way to work and I REALLY need to stop it.

Well then unless you know your way around a bike, you have to take it to a garage to get the fuel guage fixed, because that would fail more than the horn.

The government have started introducing a lot more ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras around the place, which are linked to the DVLA database and the Police National Computer and check to make sure your vehicle is taxed, insured, not reported stolen and that the registered keeper isn't wanted. Would suck if they got you with one of those. So, yeah, don't be driving around without tax my man.

Thanks for that Garth, but i'm fully taxed and MOT'd now, so consider this thread over!

I hit a mighty 40mph but hey, its all good.

Thread not over apparently.

What's the best way to lock a bike up? Someone at work was saying something about just putting a chain around the wheel and not needing to attach it to anything, but I didn't want to risk looking stupid and asking how that worked.
